: BJ - damn commercials
Don_Lightfoot Jan 19th, 07, 4:39 PM Craig Jackson must be raking in the big bucks from Speed TV considering all these commercials. Seems that every other car I want to see they go to commercial.
Here it is Friday and only 30 minutes into the boradcast. A 67 SS Chevelle coming up - go to commercial. Then a 65 L79 Chevelle coming up - go to commercial. So far today they make sure they get all the jags on screen and old fords, yada, yada, yada
BillsCamino Jan 19th, 07, 4:49 PM I agree with 'ya Don.
I got so mad last night I quit watching. It's all about the money...the cars (and hobby) are secondary.
Don_Lightfoot Jan 19th, 07, 4:56 PM Ya Bill, very frustrating.
Well, they just did it again. That beautiful 66 Black L78 just got missed by a commercial. I hope our buddy Mike wasn't anxious to see it go across, Went for $83k I think :(
Of course, it seems we get to see every T-Bird ever built. Not even one hour into broadcast and I've missed 3 cars I wanted to see. My next visionary is the 68 Z coming up shortly - let's see if it gets hit with a commercail.
jodysss396 Jan 19th, 07, 7:16 PM And all of the same ones show over and over and over. I enjoy watching the auction but we probably miss some nice cars during them.
Jody
66 MYSTERY CHEVELLE Jan 19th, 07, 7:27 PM Craig Jackson must be raking in the big bucks from Speed TV considering all these commercials. Seems that every other car I want to see they go to commercial.

Black 66 SS L-78.. go to commercial
Daren71 Jan 19th, 07, 7:35 PM I did get to see that nice '71 go thru for $55k. It looked pretty good to me. Yeah, I agree with ya Don, too many again. Watched the Linda Vaughn Hurst Olds go thru. Lots of cool people on stage when that went thru. Daren
Don_Lightfoot Jan 19th, 07, 7:42 PM Black 66 SS L-78.. go to commercial
Read my second post above Mike ^^
Ya Daren - Linda Vaughn, Joe Amato, Bill Jenkins, Reggie Jackson and Tony Stewart to name a few
riskyvt Jan 19th, 07, 7:47 PM I did get to see that nice '71 go thru for $55k. It looked pretty good to me.
I noticed the hood stripes didn't end at the right spot on the leading edge of the hood!!!!
704EVER Jan 19th, 07, 7:59 PM I just came on here to complain about the same thing, your waiting to see a real car come across and they throw some piece of sh%t commercial on that nobody gives a f#%$ about! They come back and you've got HERMAN MUNSTER'S RESTO MOD on! WTF? Who's running this dog and pony show? Why do they even need commercials here? It's all BS! What? CRAIG can't AFFORD to buy SPEED CHANNEL UNITERRUPTED!
68KMENO Jan 19th, 07, 8:07 PM we get to watch some TOY 6 volt car sell for 75,000 dollars !! WTF????
so I got up an left the room .... my own commercial !!! Screw it ...
Don_Lightfoot Jan 19th, 07, 8:16 PM You know, after all this same crap last year, I was considering a "lobby" for pay-per-view of the BJ Auction. Obviously the announcers can't go for 12 hours straight, but just show the cars without the commentary during those times. Personally, I would gladly pay $50-$100 to watch this event uninterrupted.
Timmer Jan 19th, 07, 8:30 PM Hi Don
It is about the dough, but I enjoy watching for the pure enjoyment of the look. I don't know if anyone noticed I will check what I taped later but there was a 1968 Camero blue with white stripes going up. A womwn auctioneer bumped the bid three times when the guy on National TV was shaking his head no and even mouthed the words no more. So that was done only to push the bid higher !!! Not fair play in my book .Well Don think of it this way I don't see any scars on the backs of the hands of the bidders from touching hot headers or skinned knuckles so they have missed out on the fun most of us in T.C. have had -- tim --
704EVER Jan 19th, 07, 8:34 PM I think the whole damn thing a scam, I've seen some really nice cars get pushed off the block before the bidders have a chance to think about. ROLL IT AWAY, ROLL IT AWAY!!!! Short MONEY! Then you'll see a car that's nice BUT, the auctioneer will STOP and say " People this is a blah, blah, blah and start up again". I wonder who owns those cars that the auctioneer stops in the middle to remind everyone to bid now because they aren't pulling the money they thought they should? I think BJ hits you in the begining, the middle and the end! Out of the 1200 I wouldn't be surprised if they had a hand in 200 of the cream of the crop.
SebJr Jan 19th, 07, 8:45 PM I can't stand watching the high rollers with their wives all dolled up and cocktails in hand celebrating after the 2nd or 3rd cars they've won... you know it's not about the cars with them..... it's about showing off the $$$$$ they don't know what to do with:sad:
Enforcer505 Jan 19th, 07, 8:56 PM only money for them. age joe cant afford 150,000 for a car. IMO no car should be worth that much.
what happens if someday we run out fo fossil fuels? or gets to expensive, what will the hobby do?
Don_Lightfoot Jan 19th, 07, 8:57 PM I think the whole damn thing a scam, I've seen some really nice cars get pushed off the block before the bidders have a chance to think about. Excellent point Mike. I would really be p'ed if I was the current high bidder on a car and there didn't seem to be any other action coming and then the money hungry CJ gets on the microphone and yaks and yaks and yaks to get it higher so he can pad his pocket somemore. Agree, this event has gone from providing a service for buyers and sellers to get togther - TO - a money grabbing fiasco. Have you noticed how many problems they've had on the block this year?
Just happened again - commercial when that Blue 67 SS convertible was going over and all we got to see was the back end being pushed out the door. And, just now, they went to commercial when an LS-5 ragger was coming on. They now say it sold for about $142K. DUH!
Ark68SS Jan 19th, 07, 9:19 PM I think ya'll ought to tape or TIVO it, then your blood pressure wouldn't go up.:p It's TV; the BJ auction has as much to do with the real world of cars as Desperate Housewives has to the real world of suburban life. ;)
Maybe we could have a Team Chevelle mass email to Speed & tell them to show [B]every[B] Chevelle that goes through. Let me know when you do it & I'll send another one to them.

704EVER Jan 19th, 07, 9:21 PM Don, the more I watch this, the more jaded I get. The guy from PRO-TEAM just bought like his 5th Vet since the beggining. Saturday PT has the 2 biggest lots going, the BOOKENDS and the LAST 67. Whose in bed with who here! Pro-Team's buying every Mid Year BB for + or - a 100k and rest assured they'll be back next year for double the cash with BLOOMINGDALE CERTIFICATION and PAPERWORK! It's a great job if you can get it! Just my .02
Don_Lightfoot Jan 19th, 07, 9:42 PM I think ya'll ought to tape or TIVO it, then your blood pressure wouldn't go up.:p
C'mon Bill, at this point in time of my life I have very little that I can get worked up about - I'm just too laid back most of the time. Gotta get my gripes in sometime and I guess this BJ BS is it for me. My BP machine has been permanently hooked up all week :D :D :D
Luis Jan 19th, 07, 11:24 PM Don, I was thinking the same to make it pay-per view. Way to many commercials. I did noticed an increase from 8% to 10% for the buyer. What percentage does a seller pay if he buys the car back?
68KMENO Jan 20th, 07, 12:09 AM I heard there is a 12% over the phone charge on top of the normal fee's ??? is that right ?? that would make selling a car 20% for BJ !! OMG
its no wonder he keeps saying rolling in the NEXT one !!!
Chris396 Jan 20th, 07, 12:26 AM I have a question that has never been answered. Why do they play that annoying telephone beeping noise during the commercials?
B-J is like a bad accident. It's a tragedy but you just have to look.
Rich69RS/SS Jan 20th, 07, 9:24 AM Did I hear it correct a seat in front of the stage was $500 bucks ? I'll bet they caught hell from the Pontiac boys when they cut to commerical just as a 69 rag top was coming on. It's a little over the top when BJ is shilling their own tee shirts on TV.
DougA Jan 20th, 07, 9:41 AM If I see that damn Nurenburg BMW commericial again I'm gonna throw a beer through the tv.Also, why can't they get a better car guy up on the stage.Whatever happened to Alain Decadenet,he knew cars.
Don_Lightfoot Jan 20th, 07, 9:52 AM I heard there is a 12% over the phone charge on top of the normal fee's ??? is that right ?? that would make selling a car 20% for BJ !! OMG
its no wonder he keeps saying rolling in the NEXT one !!!
Mark, the seller's fee stayed at 8% from last year. However, the buyer's fee increased from 8% to 10%, and went up to 12% for phone and internet bidders.
BillsCamino Jan 20th, 07, 10:42 AM You think it's been bad up until now...wait until today...in Prime time.
At least on Ebay there's no commercials...;)
Cameano Jan 20th, 07, 11:28 AM My next visionary is the 68 Z coming up shortly
Don, I've got some pics of a nice '68 Z in one of my albums. Crossram, 4-speed, console gauges, etc., from 20 years ago. Has the For Sale sign in the pics, too. A whopping $16k. Who knew...
bad66 Jan 20th, 07, 11:36 AM I guess they think we'd rather see all those corvettes and oddballs than the actual muscle cars, I watch for a while then turn it off after they miss almost EVERY car I want to see.
Keith Tedford Jan 20th, 07, 12:18 PM A repeat of last year only worse. I like Von's comparison. I watched about 15 minutes last night then went to bed. All of my time is being spent in the garage cleaning and painting parts for our '69 el Camino so it will be ready to go in the spring. That's my reality.
Chris396 Jan 20th, 07, 3:16 PM That was a mistake IMO to raise the bidder fee to 10%. 16% isn't enough profit? He may be a really nice guy, but could Craig Jackson look anymore sinister? I would cast him as the Devil if I were a director.
Buzzbomb Jan 21st, 07, 2:04 PM I just came on here to complain about the same thing, your waiting to see a real car come across and they throw some piece of sh%t commercial on that nobody gives a f#%$ about! They come back and you've got HERMAN MUNSTER'S RESTO MOD on! WTF? Who's running this dog and pony show? Why do they even need commercials here? It's all BS! What? CRAIG can't AFFORD to buy SPEED CHANNEL UNITERRUPTED!
Yea, who gives a f#%$ about George Barris. He's only one of the greatest car customizers of all time. What does he know? YES, its a commericial, and YES it gets old, but I can forgive that one considering its George Barris pitching Meguiars.
I agree about the commercials for the most part. Will whathisname ever buy Sta-bil? Will the Cobra guy ever find a road he likes in "America"? When will that Beamer will quit doing laps at Nurburgring? When the race is finally done from Enseneda to La Paz? CMON...Spread the wealth a little with the commerical air time. I'm sure many other companies would love to pay to be seen during BAR-J.
Craig Jackson IS in it for the money. Its his business! It is a CLASS event for its size, thats for SURE. Its cheaper to get in to Bar-J as a non-bidder than any equivalent Street Rod or World of Wheels show I have ever been to, and you wind up walking out with your ticket price worth of free stuff. Free Parking, a bus to the front door, what more can you ask for? On one hand people complain the prices are too high, then on another hand the prices are low this year. I for one think its great, and BTW, I thought I heard yesterday on the broadcast that they are donating all the fees regarding that Hummer to the military families charity. Pretty nice, IMHO. Yes, its a tax write off, but hey, a donation is a donation and its for a good cause. The auction actually STARTED as a charity auction, IIRC.
rbwjr325 Jan 21st, 07, 2:40 PM B.J.s getting exactly what he,they, want.THE MONEY!They exploit cars that some poor working stiff put his heart and believe me,probobly more money than he planed to into it.I know some will say it raises the value of our cars but I never really thought about selling.I dont know about the rest of you but I dont think I would feel very comfortable being around most of the people that are bidding on the cars at bjs.Would I sell my 66 for some crazy amount? Probobly yes, but please dont ask, dont ask to buy my guns, dont ask to buy my heritage softy, and leave my cds alone.you want a cold beer? I can do that.:beers:
71elkySS454 Jan 21st, 07, 9:55 PM We're overlooking the obvious. Remember the Indy 500 when they showed the entire race? The just put it in a smaller screen with no sound when the commericials came on. They are talking about doing some Nascar races this way. I don't know if Speed has the capability to do this, but that way they could show the entire auction and you wouldn't miss any cars. Easy remedy.
Roofuss Jan 22nd, 07, 12:46 PM Mark, the seller's fee stayed at 8% from last year. However, the buyer's fee increased from 8% to 10%, and went up to 12% for phone and internet bidders.
Not to mention $500. for a bidders pass ! Vendor spaces, general admission of $25.00 or more on certain days , tv rights from Speed Channel, advertisement spaces sold { Budweiser, Ford, etc. } royalties from reruns as well as "On the Block " episodes , etc. ,etc., and don't forget there is another auction in Florida in March . Craig Jackson is a multi-millionaire several times over, has his own extensive collection of big buck cars and a very "prominent businessman here in Arizona . I went to their auctions many times over the years and have watched it go from a car show with a few vehicles for sale to what they call a world-wide event  . Now for mainly high rollers with very deep pockets who { for the most part } care no more about the old car hobby than the main in the moon :( The end result being the little guy / hobbist, pays alot more for the cars, parts , and services in the end ...............:pout:
