I want to upgrade my 8.2 2.73 to a 3.33-3.55 and posi would be nice. Since I am broke right now I will be scavenging the local yards so my question is what other models and years can I find 8.2's with a series 3 carrier? Also if anyone knows the codes for the other ends it would help out a lot.

I just took my 10 bolt out this week, its a 2.56 non-posi. but i will tell you this much, for you to find a 10 bolt posi out there it is pretty dam hard. i replaced mine with a 12 bolt. Roy @ J & S Gears has my old one, call him up, he is in Huntington Beach. He might work something out with you. he is very good and fair. Let him know Ralph with the green Chevelle sent ya :D

a lot of cars with the 8.2 have got 3.31 gears, but probably not too many had a posi in it stock.
Eaton does make a posi diff for them now- but i think they are like $450.

I don't know if we're supposed to try to sell things here but, In about a month I'm going to sell my 8.2 3.31 gear non-posi rearend,, out of a 67 Chevelle malibu 283 SB.

Can you list some of the cars and years? I need to find out ID codes so I can save time. Besides money I am also short on free time for the next 19 months.

Don't take my word on this but I beleive any 64-71 A body,,, Sylark,GTO,Chevelle, Lemans,, I can't remember

I thought 8.2, (i.e., 10-bolts), got 3.36 gears?

And 12-bolts got 3.31's..

have a 64-66 rear with 3.36's believe it is open, however. it has the bolt on style clamp for the rear springs, not the 67 up perch style.

the 8.2 we put in my cousin's 66 2 door post had 3.31 gears in it.
i counted the teeth and did the math myself..
