I am re-painting my firewall. Previous owner masked off the cowl tag, leaving it original aluminum color. Is it right to do the same? Seems it was probably that way when new.

I was watching the Barret auction and virtually every shot of a cowl tag was the same color as the firewall or the fender color on the Mopars where it is mounted.

I checked previous threads and can't find this question anywhere.

Thanks

Should NOT be masked, never was from the assembly plant either, so it never looked as you describe when new either... black out like rest of firewall. Canadian tags, did get a half arse masking across their tags however.

I concur. Paint it.

It's probably in it's natural state because the previous owner just put it on. LOL.

And we don't say the M word around here. LOL

Thanks, I'll paint over it.

Rivets are correct. I think he cleaned it off with thinner and masked it. Some bits of black paint still down in the numbers........

He should have been on this site to get it right.....ha
