Greetings. I have been looking for a new body shell for my project and I have found a candidate. I would be most greatful for everyone's opinions on this shell. Other then the problem areas in the pictures, the body is very straight. I am just wondering if there is too much rust. The pictures can be found at: http://www.speakeasy.org/~andrewb/body.html
Thanks again for your time and opinions.
Andrew

How much is the seller asking for the car? Theres ALOT of rust through! and in areas that will be tough to get sheetmetal for. I'm sure you could find a better candidate for a resto.. But if the price is right it's fixable.. The surface rust makes it look worse.. But I would ignore the surface stuff and look where you see rot through and if it's Thin metal..

The seller is asking 1000 bucks for basically the rolling chassis. It does have good glass and a 12-bolt rear. Even if the rear is shot I can probably get a couple of hundred for that, and sell the glass. But I think you are right, its way too rusty. I should try to find something else. Its not really a matter of money at this point. I would pay 2000 for a totally rust free, and straight shell.

There is a guy who selld "Just Shells" and in any condition you request.. If I remember correctly he's good price wise.. Search the "Parts for Sale" section.. Look for Body or Shells.. If I have the time I'll try to post a link!

that shell looks like a lemans, what kind of car are you looking for? The crossmember is also of the BOP variety. 70-72 ponchos sell normally much cheaper than chevelles, so you should have no problem finding something to work with for a decent price.

Good eye drptop! Yes the car in the pictures is indeed a LeMans. I am working on a 1970 GTO, the the heart of a Chevy. I have a Gen VI 502 with HOlley aluminum heads and Commander 950 fuel injection. 570HP on the dyno, backed up by a Richmond 6spd. So as you see I am a cross breed. The hard core Pontiac guys snuff their noses at me and frankly the hardcore Chevelle guys aren't too pleased either. But IM doing it like Frank Sinatra said " I did it MY WAY!" Thanks again for all your posts.

The trim tag makes it obvious to the make of the car.I agree, to rusty.keep looking, they're out there. My car is kind of like that one,but not as bad.A lot of fabricating pieces and a lot of welding.that car looks like a candidate for a dip in the chemical tank.otherwise i would pass, especially for $1000.That windsheild area is scary.

Looks like there was a rare pontiac wheel in one of the trunk pictures.
Too rusty I'd pass find another candidate.
I know where there is 2 GTO's for sale 3000 a piece 71-72 72 took a hard hit in front and needs a new frame the 71 just needs a paint&clean.

Philip, I think those were actually Chevelle hubcaps. They do look a lot like teh rare Hurst Pontiac wheels.

I guess my question is what was the other red car setting next to your car that you might buy for restoration? Was that a red 66-67 chevelle/ malibu quarter panel or a 66-67 GTO/ lemans quarter panel? Sorry but that other car got my interest.

Dwaine,
You would be a brave soul to take on that other red car. I was in really bad shape. If you want me to take some pictures of it, I certainly can. But for starters, the floor and half the rear quarter panels have been hacked off with a sawzall. The guy that runs this place is kind of a butcher. He will take a perfectly good shell like this Lemans I was looking at, and just saw off the rear quarters one by one if someone call and offers him enough money to do it. Its really sad.

I don't know what part of the country that you're from, but in the rust belt, that is actually a fairly clean car for it's age. It's definitely fixable, but you're going to have to do a lot of metal patching in the rear window channel area. I would also remove the stainless trim at the base of the windshield and check for rust damage there also. Once you blast the trunk floors, there will probably be a lot of rust through and it wouldn't surprise me that it would need new trunk floors. It all depends how on much body work that your willing to do or pay for.

Not to jump from the topic but I need to know what the red car was setting next to the Pontiac that you have interest in restoring? The pic was JPG, IMG_0354.JPG. It looked to be the body line of a 66, 67 Pontiac or just maybe a 66, 67 Chevelle. Can you tell me if it was a Chevelle or not? Also the car you sent the pics to was not bad and could be done with some work.

Andrewb70,

Sorry i just caught you post but resubmitted my same request. I was just looking for a Chevelle parts and thought the red car might be a 66 Chevelle? I guess you can say I am always looking for parts. My 66 SS is currently done but like most I am trying to fill up a part of my garage with good NOS stuff.

If it is a chevelle I would like a couple pics if possible and the location of this car. Curious here in KC/KS
