My '71 chevelle motor is blown. I am replacing it with a 350. Shouldn't the motor mounts be the same. The ones that I got seem to fit the inside of the engine compartment very tighty, they will probobly fit with a couple bangs of a hammer. The person at the local parts store claims the application is different from a 307 to a 350. Do I need to change the "sguares" that the mounts sit on in the engine compartment as well??? I always thought a small block was a small block. Dennis

I went from a 283 to a 350 without any problems, I think small block MM are all the same.......anyone else know anything different?? mgg

I once thought as you do...that all were the same; I too learned they are not. I just tried this in my '70 Nova, going from 307 to 350 and when it came time to drop in the 350, it wouldn't seat onto the frame mounts...there were too narrow. I went back to the parts store (NAPA) and told them of the problem and they said they were the same; only problem is that when I looked at the one's this store had (different store than origional were purchased at) they were wider and were the right size. The guy told me they were supposed to be the same, but the part numbers were different by one number. I would go back and have them pull both sets and buy which ever is larger (probably the 307 size). Please E-mail me if you have any further questions, but I guess it boils down to a wider frame mount of the 307 motors. Hoep this helps.

The frame towers differ between a 307 or 350, as well as a 283 or 327.

The rubber cushions must match the frame towers, since a mismatch would lead to serious repercussions, like poor exhaust header fitment, and/or improper clutch alignment.

since when are the motor mounts different on a 307 and a 350??? I just pulled a 350 out and put a 454 in my chevelle and it sat right in....now if a big block will sit where a 350 was, why wont a 307????somebody is pulling somebodies leg

Bob- 70-72 (not sure about 68-69) There are different mounts for the 307. The 350-402-454 use the same mounts. Chevy must have figured the lowly(no offense intended!!) 307 did not need the same mounts the big power engines did.
Just like there are diffences in the frame side mounts on the 67-69 Camaros with the big blocks.
