Can anyone tell me if the front filler panel( the piece behind the bumper) is black or the same color as the car on a 69 Chevelle? Also, what black is used below the deck lid between the tail lights. flat? satin? semi-gloss and where is the best place to get it . Thanks a bunch!!!!!! Mel

I asked this question myself at least 2 different times over the past year, and each time it has been the consensus that the front filler pan is black on an SS car in 69. I have had 2 69s (neither one original paint) and they both had this pan painted body color... but i guess 2 wrongs don't make a right http://www.chevelles.com/forum/wink.gif As for the rear panel, as long as its a semi-gloss black, its considered correct. I'm sure every batch was a little different, and anyone who says theres a 100% "correct" black for any certain part is fooling themselves. I've seen original cars with the black rear pan almost full gloss, and i know 69 camaro SS396 rear pans were almost as glossy as the rest of the paint, contrary to what most people beleive. I have looked at several original paint camaros, and scrutinized the paint inside the trunk and weatherstrip, where its never been rubbed on/waxed/etc. and its much glossier than most people paint them when restoring them... i would guess the chevelle to be the same.

'68 and '69 cars had the splash pan satin black, regardless of SS or Mailbu. '70-'72 were body color regardless of SS or Malibu.

I'd agree with the last post. That's the way I've always seen them.
My '69 Malibu has it in black.
