I need help making a decision about shaving the door handles off my 67 chevelle. I like the look but I don't know the pro's and con's. Has anyone had problems after doing this? and what will this do to the value of a car? Thanks for your help. Steve

Pros - some think it looks cool.
Cons- Pretty much looking at new door skins to undo it if you ever wanted too.
Sucks to get in the car if 1, your battery goes dead, 2,the module(brain of the system) takes a dump or three you lose the remote control or the remote control battery goes dead.
It will definately keep a purist from buying your car at resale time.
I have done a few shave jobs and its a pain in the butt dealing with a car with no door handles.Just imagine having to dig for a remote every time you want to hop in the car(especially when working on it) graemlins/angry.gif

all i can say is don't do it. finding good doors is hard enough. my firebird has shaved door handles i bought it that way and they don't work anymore. needs bigger poppers. the kid who owned it before me never fixed it and always left a t-top unlocked so he could get in. needless to say he forgot one day and off the t-top went at about 50 mph. now i'm looking for some good doors to put back on it. true story and i hope it changes your mind. graemlins/sad.gif

I think for a show car that you dont or rarely drive, it's fine. But not a daily driver, PAIN IN THE ASS.

I'm with these guys for the most part. It is a much harder task using the shaved doors than doing the shaving! ;)
I like the idea of changing door handles much more, IF I were to do anything. The handles from a 71-73 Buick RIv for instance have been used on other sixties and seventies cars for years and look pretty cool.
Personally, I think you should spend the time on detailing what you have. Detailing is the biggest bang for your buck in car building, bar NONE.

Shaved door handles is the biggest joke!! What a pain in ARSE they are. Just imagine this its raining cats and dogs you are TRYING to get into your car but all that is happening is the windows are going up and down the trunk lid is popping open and the friggin doors WONT open.
Was at a car show in Kansas city with my boss took his 46 ford convert down which had shaved handles, that little trip right there told me never ever install shaved door handles. graemlins/angry.gif
Am with Martin the look of flush mounted handles would be better. Am planning on doing a pair of 00-04 Buick lesabre door handles on my 70. Has that shved look as they are flush with the sheetmetal and painted body color.
But the problem with that is you NEED the skin from the donor car which in my case is the lesabre. Plus you ALSO need to mod or install sometype of a cam that will change the action on the latch as the opening action of the stock handle to new handle is different. The stock is a push in style where the new is lift
