Called Ground Up-they didn't list a throttle cable for a 68 Chevelle. Anyone know a good GM part # or other source for a replacement?

Sid, when I converted my 65 to a cable, I just got the throttle cable for a Nova right at a GM dealer. Maybe GM still has them for the 68

3930793 is the part # in the AIM. It's NLA from GM and my dealer's locator didn't show any in the country. I've found part #3972679 that says it's for '68~'72 big block 4 bbl Chevelles, and it's still available from GM for a little over $21.
For some reason I'm thinking that there's a difference in them from '68, either in the cable itself or how it mounts to the bracket on the carb. Anyhow, try it out & let us know.

2 or 4 barrel, Sid? SBC?? Makes a difference on a 72 because of the way they mount on the engine.

Good luck trying to find a correct (3930793) 68 big block cable or any aftermaket cable made to fit the 68 only bracket.

I've been looking for this cable since 1994 and just came across an NOS cable a few months ago on ebay. Wasn't cheap but i wanted it.

All these cables being sold for 68-72 in the past 10/15 years thru GM and aftermarket companies are the 69 grommet type. Ken from ground-up used this cable on his 68. You can either mod your original bracket or just use the 69 bracket.

BTW about (5) years ago i seen a 3930793 cable sell for $450 at a swap met in florida. I didn't want it that bad......

Top cable is the 68-72 cable that GM sells. Bottom cable is the 68 only cable.

the bottom cable looks like what GM went to in 73. but maybe the firewall side is different, tho.
maybe try one out of a 73 Chevelle- or even a pickup. get a junkyard one for a buck and try that first, then order a new one if you want.

That's odd. I'm pretty sure the bottom cable is what I pulled out of my 69 and got from the dealer as a replacement. I remember the square shape and, I think , breaking a tab off while removing the cable.

The cable I got from the dealer was not correct, though. It was too long.

Tim.

EDIT: Oh, we're looking at the throttle brack area there, not firewall. I did get the top one then. But my throttle bracket had a square hole...

68 Q-jet bracket, square cutout

69 Q-jet bracket with spring tab cut off, painted black.

Also the 69 bracket angles downward when installed compared to the 68.

Thanks for the info guys! Yes, I've got the original 68 cable on the car (bb). Hopefully the replacement one will stay in the bracket OK.
