I just have my engine out for a rebuild and want to tackle the firewall and fender wells,as well as the exhaust manifold. Is black semi-gloss Krylon the best paint? what about the ex. manifold? Any tips on how to do it?
TIA,
Myles

The krylon semi gloss is great to use on the inners and the firewall, although it isn't the correct match. I used it on my 70 and it turns out great. You must wipe everything down with a wax and grease remover. If the grease and muck is real thick get some power clean and soak it real good with a spray bottle and brush it clean. Wash it real good with a water hose and let dry. Then wipe with a grease remover that is made for auto painting. Get some 1 and 2 inch masking tape and maybe even some newspapers to mask all the wires and so forth off. You will want to mask the compartment off from the rest of the car unless you feel like dealing with over spray on the exterior. Good luck

I would use Eastwood's "underhood black" instead of krylon semi-black. The finish sheen is just about perfect and the color looks great. Krylon semi-black has the wrong sheen and the color looks like it's almost brownish-black when the light hits it. The eastwood paint flows out much better also. Overall the finish quality is much much better!! Looks factory if you ask me!!

Also for stock exhaust manifolds I would clean them by sandblasting or wire brushing, then use manifold dressing which wipes on and can be touched up at anytime without removing the manifolds. Goodluck!! Mike,M22

Wires ? If the eng is out, I would Carfully remove the wire harness. B-4 paint. i then have an old kity litter pan and fill it with Caster's Purple clean. and roll up rhe harness and let'em soak. rinse them with clean water and repair and bad tap sections or connectors, use a contact cleaner on all terminials, and presto a new harness.
DO NOT use lacquer thinner to clean anything painted or PLASTIC. It's a solvent tape and plastic connectors will be destroy/deformed
.
Gl I also use Eastwood under hood black
