I have a friend replacing the floor pans on his 69 Chevelle 2 door hard top.

The pan removal for the new pieces are not the problem. It's the braces that run across the floor (front & rear). His are bad on the oter areas.

Where are the spot welds that hold it to the inner edges of the rocker areas under the sill plate? He has the body off the frame, but how to you get to those spot welds to remove the brace?

Wasn't there a good article in the car magazines a while back that showed this removal clearly on a 69 A-Body?

Thanks

DG there is no need to fully remove the car off the car in fact it can be a bad idea. All metal replacement should be done with the car bolted down to the frame, but in this case you cant because the frame is in the way.

When I did my floors I just lifted the body high to place 4x4 between the frame and body in 3 places. 1st under the cowl, 2nd right before the rear wheel well and the 3rd somewhere in the middle of 1-2.

If I remember right there is only four spot welds that hold the brace to the inner rocker. If you sand blast the area the welds will be very visable I used a cutoff wheel to grind away the spot welds, couldnt reach with spot weld remover. Once you grind away that those welds the brace will be free from the inner.

I highly suggest you remove only one piece of metal at a time. ONly replace one brace, then when its fitted to the floor and held in place only then remove the other brace. If you havnt yett replaced the floor, fit the new floor to the old braces first before you remove the braces. If you fit the floor you will know what areas of the floor need to be modified or tweaked, and you will know that the floor has to be where its at cause the old braces tell you where it needs to be. when you finally got the floor srewed and tacked welded in place, then remove the old braces, one by one, fitting them to the new floor.

If you dont replace it piece by piece but just cut out everything then start from stracth, you will more the likely have a sagging floor that doesnt sit it in orginal position. Ive been there before and it sucks getting it back to where it should be...Eric
