Someone said in another thread "as some of you know black looks better without clear".

I painted my Camino black bc/cc and it looks horrible (entirely due to (lack of) skill of the operator - it's a prime example of "what not to do").

I know I need to strip and try again (one of the issues is primer-too-thick) but if black really looks better without clear then I'll go with a single-stage instead.

Thanks, y'all.

Single stage urethane black, color sanded of course, is as good as it gets. I did the stripes on my hood in Tuxedo black ss and after color sanding WOW! If it wasn't so hot down here I'd be tempted paint one black!

Elcaminos are special!
I'd rather walk around with a Chevrolet hubcap in my hand than drive a Ford

I have seen some pretty incredible single stage (no clear) finishes. I have become VERY lazy in my old age. A bc/cc finish can provide and excellent result with less sanding, buffing and polishing. If done properly both are good. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder. Karl

My opinion is that single stage paint jobs are best for solid colors while BC/CC works for metallics.
