The cool thing is electric motors are up to their max torque right off at 1 rpm and hold it until very high rpms. Where as combustion engines get max torque at a peak spot. That max torque the whole time really helps.

The only thing holding these electric cars back is the power supply. As battery technology get better it becomes more viable, but still have a little ways to go.
