Hey, guys. I'm just curious, I have a small hole in my passenger side floor pan. I really want to get this fixed before I put my new interior in. The area around the hole(s) is slightly rusted(about 4" to 5" in dia). Anybody have a ballpark $ amount?

First question is are you looking for a show car or do you just want to fix it? The easy way if it as small as you say is ----tin snips, POR-15, weld or rivet a piece of metal over the hole after you've cut all the rot out (give yourself a few inches back from the rust)prep it with the 15 put the plate in and if you use rivets, make sure you seal it with something that way it dont happen again.

No no no....don't rivet. That is using some kind of Arkansas engineering at best. Grab a friend at work that has a MIG welder or pay someone that has a MIG welder at a local shop to patch this thing up. With riveting you run the risk of trapping in or allowing moisture to seep back into the hole that you just tried to patch. Which do you want to do...put a bandaid over this problem or have the doctor take a look at it and prescribe the drug that'll cure it? With the area that you describe you can easily have someone do this for easily under a hundred bucks and have confidence that in a repair that is done right. Good luck.

How big is the hole and how bad is the rust? I'm getting ready to try Por's floor repair kit on my rear seat pan, but I'm only dealing with pinholes.

Arkansas gets a bad rap for that kind of thing all the time. I spent a good part of my youth in western Ark. but I never saw that kind of shoddy patch work until I bought my Impala. This was a Michagan car and some jerk up there in CAR LAND pop riveted metal roofing to the floor boards and trunk to cover up some rust holes. Next time I'm going to look for a car from Arkansas.

But I digress.....

This is a great opportunity to learn to weld and to justify the purchase of a welder! Patch it properly with a MIG and you will never regret it.

I used a fiberglass repair kit from Wal-Mart for mine. Lots of pinholes but no big holes. Worked great. For big holes weld a patch if you can.

Make it look the way you like it, forget what the other guys say!

Hey, I said "weld or rivet", weld being the choice decision. I would like to retract my last statement, please. And by the way, thats straight looosianna engneeerin. http://www.chevelles.com/forum/tongue.gif Personally, I would most definitely weld. My velle has some really really crappy patches put into the floor that I am gonna have to undo.
