painting my 64 malibu Its currently base/clear I dont like the way it scatches when you wipe it down Years ago it was a single stge black and I did not have this problem If anyone can elaborate on this it would be
appreciated

Some clears are softer than others, the softer more fragile clears will show the common car wash scratches on dark colors easy. Single stage dark colors don't show these scratches as easily although they are there. A high quality clear with good durability makes all the difference in this situation.

for a true deep black single stage
bc/cc in black tend to look a little milky but still nice
