Have you tried NATIONAL PARTS DEPOT ? They seem to have pretty good selection. What part do you need? Let me know and I can look around.

RTFM,
I recently installed one from Original Parts Group (1-800-243-8355) in the passenger door of my '66 SS and it works great. OPG has 65-72 reproduction front door latch assemblies for $109.95. They adverstise the 65-67 as being the same. Right = # C980001. Left = # C980002.

In 1968, when I was 21 and a student at Washington State University, I got my first (http://www.chevelles.com/showroom/greg_pchevelle21.jpg) '66 SS. Thirty years later, I got my second (http://www.chevelles.com/showroom/greg_pchevelle52.jpg) '66 SS. Note that both Chevelles are in the same location.

it is the latch assembly inside the door ... i appreciate your help - will be trying OPG, NPD says it fits '67, and made it sound like it might not fit a '66.

I've got a 67 latch in my 66, and it works just fine. Only difference being when the door is locked, you can not open it from the inside by simply pulling up on the handle... you have to-unlock it first.
