Hi ,I'm looking for information regarding the origional underbody floor pan color for a Van Nuys built 70 chevelle built in the March -May timeframe. Anybody have a survivor Chevelle from this plant that can share this info? I'm not looking for cars that have already been restored and what somebody else used as I already have that and want to be sure when I redo it that it's done correctly. I don't get to see many Van Nuys cars up here in New England. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks, Chris White

Chris,
Any of the original unrestored Van Nuys cars that I have been involved with used mostly red oxide primer (unlike the rose on many of the other plants) and it was then very sparsly covered with chassis black. Most of the VN cars I have seen put barely any black on from the rear axle area rearwards but were covered a 'little' better forward of the rear axle though there still was a lot of primer showing. Arlington plants were very much the same though they used even less chssis black from what I have seen. I will look and see if I have any photos of original cars.
Check with Don S. of Illinois. About 10 years ago he restored a very low mileage Forest Green, Saddle interior Van Nuys LS-6 M-22 car and took lots of pictures. I think there were a few of the underpan as well in his photo album. I think you know him but if you need his contact information give me a shout.

Thanks Rick, I really appreciate your help. I was kind of expecting and hoping that it was red oxide as it will give a nice contrast to the Fathom Blue body on the T-400 car I'm currently doing. Would be great if somebody has any pics of their undercarriage to look at that can post here.
Thanks again, Chris

I shot Don an e-mail to see if he can provide you with some pictures. Hopefully you hear something from him today.
