I'm new to this forum, and I figured since Chevelles & Montes shared the same chassis, some of you may be able to help me out. I have a fairly unmolested '72 Monte that originally came out of N. Carolina. The car is solid and pretty good looking considering that its never been restored, just repainted. I want to swap a freshly rechromed rear bumper onto the car, but when I went to remove the original (hasn't been touched in 31+ years) the bumper braket bolts that come strait up from the underside of the car (just behind the gas tank) didn't want to come out too easily. I got one to come out, the 2 on the pass. side turned a little bit, and the one remaining on the drivers side has started to spin its threaded insert that is inside the unaccessable area just behind the trunk well and rear close off panel. As far as I can see there is no way I can get at this spinning threaded insert without taking a hole saw and making an access whole so that I can clamp on with some vise grips. Please let me know if there is any other way I may be able to solve this problem without drilling a hole in the unrusted original trunk floor of my baby! Thanks for your help

Sorry I can't help with your problem, but I sure would like to see a pic of your car. That's the color my car was from the factory. Just wondering what it's supposed to look like.

computer was down sorry it took so long
if the bolts are stuck i think
i would drill them out with a left
hand drill bit remove the bumper.
this may give more room to get some lube
on the threads and maybe a little heat
i have had good luck with left hand drill bits
in the past
