I have a broken one on the passenger side of the 69 SS. How do you remove them and can a replacement be bought new? If one cannot be bought new, does anyone have one to sell?

There is a C clip with turned up ends that
holds the handle on.You need a tool available at any auto parts store to remove it.The tool is flat and slides in behind the handle and pushes against the turned up ends of the C clip to push it off the barrel of the handle. They sell replacements in the section of the auto parts store that has the "help" parts display. These are cheap aftermarket replacements. If you want a real used replacement I am sure someone will respond that has one.

I have the crank handles off. The gear inside the door appears to have some broken teeth. It is the part inside the door that needs to be replaced.

Mike,
You are soooooooo screwed! Seriously, the only way to fix this is to replace the whole regulator. Been through this a few times on my driver's side door. The last time, the gear cracked in two and I put a pin through it to hold it together, but ultimately had to scrounge up a regulator in the bone yard.

Okay, there were 3 rivets that held the gear assembly together and I drilled them out. The gear was toast as expected. Does anyone have a parts car that has a ruined door to pull this gear out of? If not, does anyone know what cars will have the same part? I don't have parts yards easily available to go hunting!

I have the same problem on my 65 wagon. I need a new set of gears also so if some one finds a source let me know. Thanks Dave.

This has become an interesting quest. It seems there are 2 diferent gears used. One has 6 teeth and the other 7 teeth.

I got a 6 tooth one off a 68 and one 6 tooth one off a 70 today. My 69 has 7 tooth gears on each side!

Anyone want to trade 2 six teeth gears for one 7 tooth gear?

Mike,
Check the For Sale ads here in Team Chevelle or place a Wanted ad. I recently placed an ad for rear window regulators (that's what the mechanism is called which makes the windows go up and down). I think almost everyone in the USA responded to my ad. I have bought many things through the TC ads and always had good luck.

After reading you posts, I remembered a set of 1970 window regulators on Ebay. Sure enough the are still there with 3 days to go. Don't know if your problem is solved but this is a complete pair. Go to http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/aw-cgi/ebayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=496539813&r=0&t=0 if you are interested.

Does anyone know for 100% sure that the 70 regulators will work in a 69?

I put a bid in on them...... hehehe

Well I bought them and they won't work and I still am trying to figure out this bugger.

If anyone needs two fairly clean 70's regulators contact me. I have 28 dollars in the two of them so that would be all I want if you need them.

I had a problem with the small gear on the crank shaft wearing out. Rest of the regulator looked OK. Took the regulator out and drilled out the 3 rivets. Went to Pick-A-Part and found some stripped 4 door A bodies (with their year close to mine) that still had the rear window regulators in them (less use than front windows). Checked that the gear count was the same. Drilled out the rivets and transferred to my original regulator and re-riveted with steel rivets. That was 4 years ago, still works great.

JimC....... hugs!!!!!

I have 2 from a 69 on the way to me from Nevada for $20.00! Whoo Hooo if they are the same.

How did you put back the rivet behind the gear assembly? I was thinking a spot weld.
