: Pics of a recent SUV Wreck I was involved in.
53Chev Jan 12th, 07, 6:23 PM Just though I would post these for all of you to have a peek at. I just received them via email from the police. I was a passenger in this vehicle and managed to walk away from this with just a scrape to the head and some minor bruises. My freind who was driving walked away without a scratch! A taxi changed lanes at the last second and we had no choice but to drive up onto the sidewalk taking out a parking kiosk and hitting a post in the process. The taxi driver took off from the scene of the accident. Just goes to show how much seatbelts save lives!

P.S.-And for those of you that are wondering, YES the SUV was a write off!
Greg P Jan 12th, 07, 6:27 PM 53', are you sure you're not dead? Wow, that was quite a wreck to walk away from.
Greg
53Chev Jan 12th, 07, 6:28 PM Ya...I have nine lives but I think I'm on number 17-18 now. But ya...I'm ok. Still pretty sore tho.
Dean Jan 12th, 07, 6:31 PM WOW, man you're lucky to be here to tell about it.
What's a kiosk?
chevguy65 Jan 12th, 07, 6:34 PM After seeing the pics I thought, no way did anyone walk away from that one.
Glad to know your only sore with that kind of damage.
chevelless502 Jan 12th, 07, 6:40 PM Holy crap man, you are for sure lucky, glad you lived to tell about it.
Andy
Sid Coleman Jan 12th, 07, 6:42 PM What kind of truck WAS that??? It did a good job protecting you & your buddy!
Timmer Jan 12th, 07, 6:58 PM Wow 53 you are fortunate stop by a church on the way home !!!
DOUG G Jan 12th, 07, 7:10 PM Holly

Glad everyones alright.

DUKEdevils36 Jan 12th, 07, 7:12 PM Wow
droptop396 Jan 12th, 07, 7:16 PM What's a kiosk?
Yeah, What's a "Kiosk"??
Great you have survived such a wreck.
frankf72malibu Jan 12th, 07, 7:16 PM 53,
You obviously are living a clean life and someone upstairs knew it. Wow! Glad you are just sore.
Frank
Info overload of Kiosks:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kiosk
jocww Jan 12th, 07, 7:43 PM kiosk is just a little shack i would have hit the taxi or let him hit me screw that crap id rather take out a taxi than some innocent person in a kiosk
53Chev Jan 12th, 07, 8:01 PM The kiosk is a parking ticket machine that dispenses tickets. It is automated.
Thanks for all the support. BTW I wasnt driving and was just a passenger. Beleive it or not we werent really going all that fast. We were doing about 70-80 kph which is around 40-50mph. The cop said it was just the way we hit the kiosk and the pole that sheared off the passenger side of the suv. Needless to say, I had to clean my pants when I got home.
53Chev Jan 12th, 07, 8:05 PM What kind of truck WAS that??? It did a good job protecting you & your buddy!
I hate to say it but it was a Ford. And no it didnt do a good job of protecting us. Think about it....a kiosk and a pole sheared off the entire passenger side of the vehicle at 50 or so mph.
If that were a GM truck it would have scuffed the paint a little. In fact i'd bet it could likely have been polished out with some spit and a soft rag.
jocww Jan 12th, 07, 8:30 PM a pole will do alot of damage its like a sawzall when your going that fast, something has to give and its rarely the tree the light pole or in your case a regular pole.
twotone64 Jan 12th, 07, 8:33 PM That is an extrordinary accident you made it through. Unfortunately vehicles are made to "blow apart" in accidents. They absorb all the energy in the accident and expend it by shearing off, and crimping to save you. But maaaaaaaaaaaan.

You say that Ford didn't do a good job and you walked away with a bruise and a scratch? You were going 50 mph and it did that much damage? WOW...YOU ARE REALLY LUCKY THEN.
What is your definition of getting really, really injured then?
Glad you and your buddy weren't hurt.
esponet Jan 12th, 07, 9:39 PM this is the reason why i swerve for no one. if anyone were to cut in front of if, i will either try and brake or ram right into them. atleast if i were to hit and damage their ride, they can't go anywhere.
glad to see you guys are ok

A couple of my buddies are police officers. That's the advice they give, too. Hit 'em, that'll usually keep them around the scene, and if they run, they'll be easy to find with a lot of damage on the car.
mmurphy77 Jan 12th, 07, 11:12 PM Shoulda bought a lottery ticket on the way home! Glad you're both ok. Maybe send a pic to Ford on your attorney's letterhead and cc to the local news channel. Who knows, maybe get a new car out of the deal?
53Chev Jan 13th, 07, 12:52 AM A lot of good opinions here. I did take a pic of the damage to my head and my eye. As well I have a concussion with varrying dizzy spells and blurred vision in my left eye. It seems to be getting worse and as I write this my eye is almost swolen shut and starting to turn black and blue slightly. Weird seeing as this happened 4 days ago. On well, I guess it could be worse. As for the lottery ticket....well I play them twice a week and won 5700 bucks last summer. I guess I must have a pile of horseshoes up my ass!

gatkins Jan 13th, 07, 10:02 AM So there was a vehicle in those pictures???? all I was able to see was a pile of scrap metal.
I think you might want to send Ford a thank you note....looks like the passenger compartments actually DID do thier jobs.
Glad you are OK, definatley had something on your side that day!

53,
Have you been to a doctor yet? If not, go! If your eye is swelling 4 days after there is something messed up that you better have checked out. Also, the varying dizzy spells and blurred vision are not normal.
Frank
53Chev Jan 13th, 07, 2:56 PM Well I just got back from my doctors and after a trip to the hospital and a cat scan, they have determined I have 7-10 days to live. I guess I will bid you all farewell now and say thank you.
Actually, I am just kidding. They said I have a fractured skull from the impact and my eye orbit is where it is located, hence the delayed swelling. Doc told me to stay in bed, make no sudden movements, move slowly and go to emerg if my dizzyness or blurred vision gets worse.
Well thanks again for all the support, I gotta go get ready for my hockey game tonight, we play against the league point leaders so I cant miss this!
peace!
RedSpecialSS Jan 13th, 07, 5:44 PM Did FD cut you out? certianly looks that way.
charbilly2001 Jan 13th, 07, 7:19 PM I guarantee you I'd have done a P.I.T. on the taxi before I'd have let him run me off the road.
Randy Mosier Jan 13th, 07, 8:36 PM Are you sure you walked away from that? I mean, you didn't contact Jennifer Love Hewitt or Patricia Arquette and have one of them post this for you, did you?
Ricks70ss Jan 14th, 07, 12:08 AM DUDE LISTEN> Play the lottery. you guys are very lucky
Chris R Jan 14th, 07, 2:41 AM I agree with the others. I would have hit the Taxi without question.
jpete Jan 14th, 07, 7:28 AM Two things, how's that airbag burn feeling today? That's gonna hurt for a while but at least you're still alive to feel it. You're about as lucky as unlucky gets.
And two, where do you live that you have machines to dispense tickets. What kind of person would walk up to machine to get a ticket? Where I live, they steal them off other cars and put them on their own to throw off the police.
MAXX2 Jan 14th, 07, 11:07 AM "HIT THE TAXI" Next Time!!!!!
Is there any way you two can find some witness(s) to this?
The "Taxi Driver" Knows He Did This, And You Can't Just Let It Pass! Bet The Insurance Company Will "Fully Investigate" This.
Take Care, Get Well.

pdq67 Jan 14th, 07, 11:25 AM You might go over to MadMike's SGCOG site and find the pic's of the wreck he and his were in a while back!
All of you are darn lucky to be alive is all I can say...
Better buy a LOTTO Ticket!!

BB_Mike Jan 14th, 07, 1:57 PM I think you should have hit the Taxi. Glad your okay.
Yeap, certainly Option 2 in my book. About a month ago a local teenager in his celica managed to run a school bus off of an over pass (made national news). I just don't get it when the bigger vehicle loses.
Hit the brakes if you must, but hold that wheels with two hands and don't let it turn!
I hope you stay ok and no backaches creap up on you.
53Chev Jan 14th, 07, 2:50 PM There were witnesses to the accident but no one got a liscence number. The taxi driver apparently stopped up the road, got out of his car and looked back down the road at us. He apparently lingered for about 10-15 seconds before jumping in his car and sped off into the night.
The Taxi driver is truly a coward in my books. I would put him down there with pedophiles and rapists on the evolutionary scale. And seeing as this is my opinion...I am entitled to it and nothing will change my mind. I've always hated taxi drivers and their supposed "need" to make a buck. I dont begrudge anyone making a living, even if its scrubbing toilets....but when your attempt at making a living breaks the law and endangers others lives then maybe its time to take up knitting or maybe scrubbing toilets. I know there are those of you that will say "Oh dont paint the whole trade for the bad actions of just a few bad apples." To anyone who would offer that statement...I invite you to spend a day driving in Toronto or New York City. That will definately change your opinion. In the three accidents I have been involved in within the city of Toronto, all of them were caused by Taxi drivers. One did a U turn in front of me causing me to swerve and hit a parked car. Another time a Taxi rearended me and tried to say I backed into him at a red light...for well....no reason at all.......the cops didnt buy it and charged him with careless driving as well as follow to closely. I went to court to make sure this dips h i t got convicted. Under cross examination his lawyer tried to imply that I backed into him. I replied that seeing as my van didnt have reverse working at the time it was impossible and I even invited the lawyer to go out to the parking lot to check my van out which he promplty refused and then I provided a sworn affidavit from my mechanic stating this. The judge had a huge smirk on his face as the lawyers jaw dropped onto the floor and he said "no further questions for this witness your worship".
Anyone else care to offer up any horror stories of cab drivers who know have little more then the IQ of a turnip?
1969 Chevelle Dude Jan 14th, 07, 2:58 PM You are one lucky person.
SweetShot Jan 14th, 07, 4:48 PM Glad to hear you are okay - beat up some but alive!!!

Chris Stanwyck Jan 15th, 07, 10:30 AM Someone's lookin out for you kid.

Nicks406 Jan 15th, 07, 2:42 PM Amen to full framed vehicles! Speedy recovery!
Chris R Jan 16th, 07, 3:32 AM Perhaps the cab complany can provide the authorities info on where any taxi drivers may have been "delivering" people too that night. May show what driver may have been in that area.
