: Barn find 1969 chevelle ss396
JRDollhopf Jan 12th, 07, 3:11 PM I just bought a 1969 chevelle this car he said has ben sitting in his garage for the past 20 years and it looks as though its all original, it has a big block engine in it as i can see from the exhaust manifold but i would like to know where i can find the engine number on the block so i can compare it to my vin to see if its the original block, thanks so much
Freddy Mercado Jan 12th, 07, 3:19 PM Where you from in CT?? Pictures, can you post pictures?? The numbers should be on the right front of the engine, as you look at it.
Neuman Jan 12th, 07, 3:24 PM The engine number is on a pad at the front passenger side of the engine. This has the engine code/suffix that would tell assembly plant/date, hp, man/auto trans, etc. The partial vin is located down by the oil filter and can be difficult to read with the engine in the car, especially if the engine is dirty.
Good Luck

Isn't there a thread somewhere talking about bad weather, cold and snow, that you should be chiming in on.:p :D
dreis454 Jan 13th, 07, 7:40 AM I was asking because mine is a barn find also....well old falling down garage find.....In the north end of Hartford, and NO bullet holes:D

I also found my 69 vert as a barn find along with the other barn finds I seem to locate..:D
Trooper Jan 15th, 07, 6:16 PM In 69 the partial VIN could be down by the oil filter or on the same pad as the engine code/suffix.

Roger, copy. Accoridng to the few that have replied to a survey I have ongoing, Atlanta and KC are stamped by the oil filter and the rest were on the engine pad.
triumph66 Jan 18th, 07, 4:33 PM Great find..... Too bad there are not many barns in Baltimore. Plenty or BARs but no BARNS!!!
Congratulations and welcome to the best site on the net!!!!

JRDollhopf Mar 17th, 07, 4:12 PM Hey thanks for all of the responses. I need to take the engine out to figure out all of the engine codes because someone has re-painted at least once and its impossible to read them. But as soon as I get the engine out ill letcha guys know, currently I have the rear end out. Thanks again
dreis454 Mar 18th, 07, 8:48 AM guess he don't wanna play with us Seb.
Nicks406 Mar 27th, 07, 2:20 AM Take a long flat blade screw driver and scrape/chip the paint off. Usually does the trick. Nice find!

Ya know, I believe this is the 3rd person from Ct that I've asked where in Ct you from, with no response.
Maybe they think I'm going to search them down and steal their car. ;)
I'm going to go on a little rant here.
When I first moved back here from AZ, I noticed how rude & non-caring people here in the northeast were, when I was out west & down south...it seemed if you were pulled over for any reason , people would stop & ask if you need a hand... around here , they blow their horn , flip you the bird, and yell " get the hell out of the way" I'm done now:D
