Hello everyone,

I'm getting ready to put in my windshield and rear glass within the next couple of days. Any idea on what thickness the 'butyl' (I think that's what they call it) should be??

Any tips would be appreciated also as this is the first time I am doing this!!

TJW,

For both front and rear? The rear is the original glass and the front is a repro and I think it's a little thinner..............

Did you put the clips in before or after you dropped the glass in?

Use 3/8" on replacement windshields and 5/16" on orig AND replacement rear glass. That's what worked for me. At least all the replacement 68-72 rear glass I've seen (both PPG and LOF/Pilkington were the same thickness as original.

As far as the 5/15" seal, I had gotten the info from both an experienced body man and the auto body supply shop. According to them, whether it was original or replacement glass did not matter.

I almost forgot, put the clips in last and be sure to use the spacer blocks in the rear window. Now, in addition to the butyl (ribbon) seal, I had also used a urethane type caulking around the glass on the advise of the body supply shop. If you use this stuff, beware, IT IS MESSY graemlins/angry.gif and not the easiest stuff to clean up.
