: Screen name origin?

smittyocat
Jan 10th, 07, 1:58 PM
I was thinking about changing my screenname but decided against it for now. The origin of my name came from my cat "smitty" and the first letter of my last name O and cat LOL. whats the origin of your screen name (unless of course it is your given name ) :)

I am uncreative, and all the other ones I tried entering were taken. I didn't use my real name for anonymity (yes, I had to look that word up) at the time.

Jan 10th, 07, 2:06 PM
I was originally going to use "Quik66" or "66L78", but both were taken at the time (ironic, because they might have both been taken by "me" prior to me using this site alot and an internet newby)...

"Quik66" is what my license plate reads, and my car had an L78 engine in it for a while (and my other Chevelle is a '66 L78 car)...

Thought of changing, but I've used it for so long now (7200+ posts! wow...)...

My parents gave it to me

Me too.

You have to be careful and think about what others might "see" in your name. For example, way back when (the good old days) a friend got himself a new CB radio. We were big shotgun fans (lots of trap, skeet, birds), and used to go out with the larger shells (3" vs. 2 3/4") to see how far away we could hit stuff. His first thought for a "handle" was "3 inch magnum." I talked him out of it...

Mine actually came from my email acct.. It's my first initial (S) and the fiirst three letters of my last name(Sal), and we all know why the 396 :D

Funny part is I have my first name under my screen name & my FULL name in my signature, but everybody still thinks my name is Sal, or sometimes Al (as in SS-Al)....

I've owned 4 different LS6 Chevelles and I was going to use mine as the license plate number the next time I register one for the road.
Problem is, I keep selling them before they're done. My username is probably as close as I'll get to having that plate.

Professor_SS
Jan 10th, 07, 5:32 PM
I'm one of three professor smiths at work, one day 11 or 12 years ago I was talking about old cars, my original SS and my current 72, with a group of gear head students. One of them said something about me being the professor with the SS (my 72 is not an SS) and it stuck. It got old at school and I asked the students to stop referring to me as professor ss or the professor with the ss or professor had an ss. So now they just call me that white haired bastard that gave them a C. I can't convince them that it were up to me; if I was "giving them a grade" it would be an F in most cases.

bubba68ss
Jan 10th, 07, 5:38 PM
bubba68ss, well the 68 ss is pretty explanatory (it was my first/favorite car). The bubba is what my old boss used to call EVERYBODY at work. I am NOT a redneck and am not in the shrimpin' bidness! very much a whiteboy into chevelles

Keith Tedford
Jan 10th, 07, 5:48 PM
With my limited imagination, everything I tried was taken. Ended up using my own name. Funny thing is, there are two other Keith Tedfords within 30 miles of me and we are all related somehow and we are all left handed.

highlandlake
Jan 10th, 07, 6:12 PM
I live on Highland Lake and fish it year-round. Except this year - no ice to stand on and set traps in.
About the time I set up my account I was suffering from a bout of uncreativity, and wanted a screen name that I could remember in case I had to come back to the site. (I have this username for everything else in computer life it seems) Needless to say, this site is AWESOME and I visit if often so if I could turn back the clock I'd use something like "painlesswiringmyarse" or "whycantIdroptheoilpanona402ina307malibu?" or maybe even "shouldaworngloveswhenusingPOR15" but I think my best bet would have been "RoadSaltIsEvilInMaine" .
:)

Jan 10th, 07, 7:15 PM
Years ago, My hair was down to my arse and my beard was 1/2 way down my chest. A very good friend always sayed I looked like a big furball. When I started driving over-the-road, I used it as my CB handle. 20yrs later I'm still using it. Half the people I work with don't even know my real name. The 8994 comes from the truck number of the dump that I was driving when I started my first E-mail Acc. Now I use it for most everything.

OutCast
Jan 10th, 07, 8:17 PM
Mine is a combination of a couple of things. I am a huge fan of helicopters and a bit of a Vietnam war historian. I really enjoy reading and learning about both. For those unfamiliar, during the Vietnam conflict, the US used hunter/ killer teams to search and destroy enemy. :( Two types of choppers were used. The hunter used a LOH, or Loach, as it was known, flew at very low level through the jungle, spotting enemy activity. Once contact was made, the Loach pilot would radio his partner in the killer chopper, a Cobra gunship, and he would then rain hellfire on the position.

One of the first ( I believe, please correct me if wrong), of these H & K teams that flew the Loaches called their group the Outcasts. These guys were some serious operators. I liked their program, and when I got into online gaming ...Battlefield Vietnam and BF2, I adopted the name Outcast. When the time came to enroll at TC, the name was taken, so I just injected the 66 into it. I was born in 1966, and I like the way it looked.

So there you have it. A little history for the younger folk, and hopefully a not to sad memory for the Vietnam Vets on here. Who knows, maybe one of our TC members is a true Outcast ? Or maybe had their bacon saved by one. I'd love to know. It's out of respect that I use the name. :)

Time now for Out66Cast to didi mau..

55Redneck
Jan 10th, 07, 8:41 PM
About 9 years ago when I still lived on the coast near Vancouver I was a golf fanatic and would golf year round as long as there wasn't snow on the ground. One day I got paired up with this big scarey looking guy with a shaved head and a bunch of tats. It was a typical rainey day so I was just in my work clothes, (Jeans, t-shirt, flannel coat) and my parner for the day saw the knife in it's holster hanging off my belt where it's been for about 20 years now, and asked me if I was some kind of redneck. I laughed and then thought about it and I guess he was right, I just didn't know I was one at the time. We went on to become good friends and golfing buddies until I moved away. I wonder where my buddy Manny is now?

The 55 is from when I first found TC I had just bought a 55 2 door sedan project car which is now gone. :( I'm involved in a few online forums and that's my name on all of them but one. I shortened it to Red on that one because that's what most people call me anyways, even the wife. :D

not really, I am 23 year old SWF, 38-26-32 looking for romantic walks on the beach with a masculine "manly man" (so I had to come to a car forum of course) and if i used "Busty Beauty" none of you would respect me for my personality, intellegence, grace and charm so I had to make myself seem as unappealing as possible

Got mine from my old Hockey team. With the last name of Vasquez, I had the other teams tell me to go back to Mexico. (I'm very much white, which I found funny) But I would snap at them that I'm Spanish. So my friends started refering to me as the Mad Spaniard. the mad is for angry not crazy.

I thought it was fun, so my entire Web identity is madspaniard.

I built a monster truck some years back and it's name was "Earthquake" I later built "Earthquake II" which dwarfed the first truck. When we went out in the trucks people would call ME by my truck's name. 68 is the year of my dream car, my 68 Chevelle that's parked outside right now.

olkickdown
Jan 11th, 07, 2:07 PM
When I first got my '64 Chevelle it would not drop down to passing gear. I discovered that the linkage on the tranny was, and I'm not kidding, a section of coat hanger with a nut soldered on the end. I then discovered that the prior owner was using a Holley carb that had the kick down linkage, for whatever reason, cut off. I owned the car for a while before I could find and install all the linkage to engage the passing gear. I still remember where I was when the old 283 finally dropped into passing gear and almost pushed me back in the seat. I wish I had saved the coat hanger linkage from the tranny.

Never Satisfied
Jan 11th, 07, 2:28 PM
When I first started out on the web, I used to make my all of screen names and ID's related to whatever my current car would be. I have a reputation with my friends, justifiably so, for keeping a car just long enough to build it up and then moving on to something else (as evidenced by my now owning a Chevy II). My wife rolls her eyes and accuses me of never being satisfied.

Jan 11th, 07, 2:58 PM
For over 15 years I have been into trucks. I recently sold a frame off 1969 K/10 CST I had for over 15 years. I began to get the urge for another project. No more 4x4's. I now want to burn tires again instead of climb hills. I once had an El Camino and was trying to track it down to see if I could find it and maybe buy it back. No luck-hence the screen name. I am currently looking for a '70-'72 with a good body and frame. You know, a good starting point without breaking the bank. Even without motor and tranny doesn't have to be original. Just a good platform that won't require major body work. Or if the price is right, a 1972 two tone. My goal is something I can have fun in while I haul off the trash.

68Phoenix
Jan 13th, 07, 10:33 AM
The Phoenix is a supernatural bird-like creature, that lives for 1000 years. Then it is "reborn" or "renewed" by throwing itself into a giant fire. It dies, and then rises from the ashes to live another 1000 years.

Here's a link to the story:
http://www.fengshuimiracle.com/legend_of_phoenix.shtml

Considering the condition this car was in when I got it (about dead), and the hopes I have to restore her, this was an appropriate moniker.

SAUSAGE
Jan 13th, 07, 4:06 PM
SAUSAGE

My mama hung the name "Chorizo" on me as an infant. Chorizo in spanish means Sausage. The kids and teachers had trouble pronouncing chorizo and asked mom what chorizo meant. Since then even the superintendants and professors in college called me Sausage.

My name is Bill Charette and I joined Team Chevelle in 2001. Not too complicated huh? Oh ya...my Granny called me "Billy" till the day she died. Everyone else calls me Bill. The tag end is in her honor.

OK folks,
Interesting thread..

Mine is the first letters of my full name followed by my birthday. (Oct 29th) :D

Speaking of names, I wish everyone would consider at least filling out their name in their user profile. That at least makes it easier to communicate

BULKSS
Jan 14th, 07, 9:32 AM
I used to work at a place that occasionally I would have to weld in a unheated area.I would put on all the sweat shirts I had , I would then complain I was to Bulky to fit and a small area and weld. I was much heavier then lol . So from then on my co workers called me Bulky. Think the SS speaks for itself.

fatlip
Jan 14th, 07, 9:40 AM
In 1972 is was 16. I worked at a bowling alley as a fixer, on the bowling machines. On fri and sat nights we would sit out back, doors on back of each end of the building and watch all the muscle cars drag race right in front of the bowling alley. Well across the street was a hang out called Bills BBQ and they all would cruse and hang out there. Every weekend night there would be a fight between the (rednecks) over a girl or car, that always ended with someone having a fatlip. Well now you have it. Those time always seemed to go together fast cars, girls and a BIG FATLIP. Life was so cool then, no guns, knives, just a good ol ass woppin, pretty girls and nice cars.

Well, for those that know me, the answer is obvious...

But for those that's don't, I'm what many refer to as a redhead (natural born--no Clairol involved).

We actually prefer the politically correct term of 'Primary Hair-colored Americans'. :D

There's a lot of stereotypes about "us", like how we tend to have over-the-top-anger, I'm actually pretty easy going--but don't push it or you'll find out! ;)

No, unfortunately I'm not the heir to the throne of that mult-billion dollar battery manufacturer...hmmm..their name seems to slip my mind... ;)

Please don't confuse me w/ that goofy entertainer CarrotTop, and no I won't pass on all the comments I see on this forum about redhaired women--Even I won't try to get involved when they're upset with someone or something (*cough* *cough* we're talking the strength of an ape with no remorse!*cough*).

Jan 14th, 07, 5:05 PM
TC was one of the first places I ever had to think of another screen name and being so DOH  at computers and at that time no imagination.....i used my AOL screen name.
Sweet Shot for my love of competition shooting.
You want to hit the sweet spot and i do.
So the guys called me sweetshot. And since there was usually only 2 females shooting....it stuck.
Tho' most times I take a headshot just to show 'em I can

If I had the chance to change my screen name, it would be

Now THAT fits me!!!!!!!!

When I was at FT Bragg, I was always packing for some kind of deployment. I'd get back from someplace and I'd be told "Glad you're back now you gotta go" here, there, etc. That, and I can't stand to stay in one place for too long. There's always something different around the next bend in the road and I only have so much time to see what's out there. Gotta go.............

welp my car is black...we started naming cars for some odd reason 13 years ago when my work car a duce an ah quater" (really it was a la sabre)...and it reminded me of Christine...so I named it Martha cuz it only killed my wallet not anybody else.

So my car is black and my favorite all time song "Black Betty"...it stuck!!

1st passion is old cars.
2nd passion is disc golf. (Frisbee golf. Frisbee is a registered trade name. We call it disc golf.)
When I became computer literate, the first message board I signed up for was a disc golf board. "Discgolf" sounds too much like disco, which I once hated with a passion. Frizgolf it was. I've used the name everywhere since.

Timmer
Jan 18th, 07, 6:28 PM
Well the first name is Tim. In the mid 60's I joined a police service and in the early years became involved with an absolutely torn down obnoxious irritating tough human on earth at that time . Johnny G's first invovement with me landed me the name Timmer. This became a bench mark for arresting John because he used to lengthen out the name depending how intoxicated and beligerent he was . For example if he was excepionally irratated or whatever it would be -- Hey TTtttt iiiiiiiimmmmmmmmmeeeeerrrrr come over here take that gun belt off lets see how tough you cops are you @##%&%^of a b . This meant he became property of the county from one to several days. Some days when I came on shift and John was behind the tubes my co workers would let me know by saying Johnny wants talk to you ttttiiiimmmeeeeerrr The interesting thing is the name stuck with me through the courts used by other coppers lawyers court clerks townsfolk looking back seems funny now. . After a number of years Johnny graduated to bigger crimes bigger problems and died a young man. --- Timmer ---

Jan 21st, 07, 11:58 AM
O.K. When I got my 69 elky two and a half years ago it was PINK! At that time I was working at a prison in California City. One of my fellow employees saw me driving it one day and later asked if I "drove the Barbie El Camino to work today?!" I thought, oh great, freakin barbie!! Thats when I stopped driving it and began the restoration. My signature says, soon to be red, white, and blue, but thats not the case. That paint job was way too costly and too cartoony. I painted it copper pearl with a dark brown sugar side stripe. Since I paint cars for a living, I see alot of different colors of paint. This color looked like it was made for this car! I'm in the "color sand and buff" stage and I'll be posting pics soon. Oh, lets not forget the 454, 700R4, and the 3.42 posi. Yeah, I'm bosting!....SO! Thanks,
Ron G.

my given name is Don....get called "Big Don" too.
Have had this "thing" about '66 Chevelles since 1971 when a buddy of mine
bought a Pumpkin Orange w/white '66 SS vert.Bought my first '66(Malibu,283,
4 spd.)in 1977.'66 SS in '81,'66 wagon around '83,'66 Camino in '95.

That's "BigFred66"'s story and he's stickin' to it.

When I went to look at the Chevelle for the first time, the long haired guy at the body shop said to me, "you here to look at the Chevelle dude?" The car is a 71 and it's the year I was born and went from there.

I was going to go with my first and "original" screename I had ever used, ROLLIN_92GT, but I thought it was inappropriate for the company that was here. :)

Uhmmmm, lets see....... I'm Old, I'm Fat, I'm Bald, I'm a Guy..... and they wouldn't accept as***le or Dips**t

not really, I am 23 year old SWF, 38-26-32 looking for romantic walks on the beach with a masculine "manly man" (so I had to come to a car forum of course) and if i used "Busty Beauty" none of you would respect me for my personality, intellegence, grace and charm so I had to make myself seem as unappealing as possible

Can I get your number? http://www.lateral-g.net/forums/images/smilies/retard.gif

The 70 is the first car I built/restored. I was going to paint it the original Cranberry Red, then I decided I don't like red.

I have finally found another sane person!!

Anyways, my name is an oxy-moron, I have never worked on the 'Velle past, maybe, 9pm. It is also my name for the 'Velle (Late Night), which I NEVER use, except if need be.
