My '66 SS396 Chevelle's hood will not stay fully open. I figured it was bad hood springs, so I replaced them, but still have the same problem. When I hold the hook fully open, it is ok, then when I let go, the hood sags about 6 inches or so. What could the problem be? One of the hood hinges is new too. Please help

Mine did the same thing (1970) and it did not get better till i changed both hinges. So i would change the other hinge and it should be alright.

Mine does the same, about 4-6 down from full open. Has not been a problem.

Good to see another 66 here in Central Florida

You might have one of dem ultra rare Extra Heavy Duty 66 SS Hoods

But, I'd be willing to bet you need to replace BOTH Hinges.. you should never replace just one.. that's all it can be, nothing left after that.

could be the rivets are worn out as well, on the one side hinge that is not new. My 70 hood use to sag before i replaced all the rivets in the 2 hinges.

i just bought them for $10.44 each, solved the problem
the ss hood needs these springs, all the "repo" people out there sell the wrong
springs.

Anyone know if this number would be correct for a 67SS?

Ok, I have listened to some of your suggestions. I bought new SS springs and installed them and it still sags. I am stuck and not sure where to go. When I raise the hood, it sags about 6 inches or so still. I usually stick a broom stick to hold it open while I am working on it (because I hit my head on it too many times). Any other suggestions I would appreciate.

i still think you should change the hinges. The problem you have is probably because the hinges are worn or loose.
