I also can't seem to figure out what this big block came in. As far as I have found it's a 396/310 hp from 1968. Anybody ever used a set of 3935401 heads on anything performance wise?

Curious, Is it a tall block Truck motor? 366/427
Looks like it was used as a boat anchor.

No sir, it's a standard deck engine. Almost a boat anchor..... but it was in the desert out near Salome, AZ. It actually looks far worse than I think it is, the ones out of the desert usually don't get that rusted and it was "stored" upside down to keep the rain out of it as you can tell from all the sand in the rockers.

I'd like to hear that run.... one day in the future that is!!!!
I heard about those Big blocks that grow out there in the desert..... I heard that they are popping up whereever cactuses are found!!!
Congratulations.... looks like a nice project (and a future story to tell at the car shows)

Looked like the 391632/396 block was used in chevelles prior to jan of 68, then replaced. so maybe they also decieded to use it in trucks in Nov of 67. Looks like the heads are from a 427 truck engine. Probably replaced the original heads.
