I thought i would post this . I built a 555ci with AFR heads solid roller comp cam 290s @ 50 and mid 700s on the lift . cola crank eagle hb rods the heads are AFR 325 runners with cncd chambers . dart intake with a 1050 dom . this engine was for my 69 chevelle but felt it fit this car better . the car is a 63 split window corvette with a tube chassie . dana 60 rear with 4.88grs . rossler turbo 350 with a brake . 32 x15 slick . any thoughts on jetting for a base line and any guess on et. gonna chang gear as soon as i can . I would like to thank Mike Lewis for all of his help on the engine http://i117.photobucket.com/albums/o62/coop31_phttp://i117.photobucket.com/albums/o62/coop31_photo/DSCF0546.jpghoto/dscf05483.jpg

Start with 90/90 jetting if you're not using power valves. If you are using power valves then start 82 square. Very nice looking car! Is this a big compression engine? I'm assuming it is if that cam is really 290@.050. What's the weight of the car? I think the rear gears are WAY too deep for that combo even with a 32" tall tire. It outta fly

Damm, very very nicely done , very clean and very tastefully done if it runs as good as it looks will be a real winner ....

Very pretty car. My 548 has 92 square jets with no power valves and I run 4.88 gears with 16X32 tires. I'm crossing at 7600 at 141.5 mph.

Yeah, I could be wasting my time looking at naked women, but THIS IS BETTER!

Always my fav style. Looked at a 63 replica, all Dzus fastened body panels, and while cool, I needed something I could drive all over hell and creation. Would've "FLOWN" with nothing more than a hot 427 in it.

THATS E'FN BEAUTIFUL!

Awesome car! FWIW, I've seen 2 different 489" BBC's make more HP(20-25) and more TQ with an 1150, vs a 1050. I think the difference would be even more on a 555. Those heads and that large cam will move a lot of air! JMHO. Good luck!

My race car is a tube frame 63 vette. It weighs 2200 with me in it, Powerglide, 4.10 & 4.56 gears (9 in,) 32x14.5. With my Approx 620 hp pump gas 454 it went 5.85 in the 1/8 (converts 9.18 1/4) This was with my motor tuned for nitrous, but without nitrous used. With a 300 shot right off the transbrake I have gone 5.243 at 133.96 in the 1/8 (converts to 8.23 1/4)

At a race weight of approx 2850 and probably 900 hp I would "guesstimate" you would run in the 5.6-5.8 in the 1/8 and high 8's low 9.'s in the 1/4 if the car will hook, go straight etc. I would swap the Turbo 400 out and put a powerglide in the car, even if you plan on a little street use. A car that light with that much power will limp around on the street just fine with a glide. You will be buzzing the motor pretty good in the 1/4 with the 4.88's, but might still be ok. With my 4.56's I was at 7400 rpms at 154 mph.

this car ran a 5.8 in the 1/8 and a 9.40 at 137 with the old 496 in it with world product heads and 12.8 compression . im thinking of mabe a 430 gear or a 411 this is a dana 60 so not that easy to swap but want to give the engine somthing to push on .

Either remove the PV and leave the jets alone, or change the front jets to 81's with the PV. That will clean it up.

Hi H
Really nice,,, Darlene wants it :D
Thank you for the kind words, we try..

On the jets, I just took a 469 off the dyno with no power valves.
It wanted 87's w/o power valves & I ended up with .063's for idle air bleeds to clean up the part throttle.
It gets a tad lean with the 87's mid range but makes great power for a "little" engine.
The intermediate circuit is shut off on this one (air bleeds removed) but will be played with after it is in the car & running by the owner.

Did your mail box fill up with pictures

It might have been better to have waited for a Merlin III block as your's hasn't got the extra head bolts but you might be O.K. if you don't squeeze it. You'll need to take some gear out if you want to get down the whole quarter, especially since the car is so light. Ski_dwn_it has a 555" BB in his Chevelle with 3.73 gears and 29" tires at a little over 3700 lbs. I'd say yours will like 4.10s or at 2600-2800 lbs. What kind of vacuum pump do you plan on using with those gas ported pistons? My son has a GZ Motorsports sportsman pump now and it works real good (holds 7" at an idle). Vacuum pumps need an adjustable relief valve so as not to draw over 12" running down the track.

WOW, WOW, WOW! That is one of the nicest Vettes I've seen! Good Job!

Check this one out. It has a 481ci sbc n/a that runs 7.30's @ 185mph. It only weighs 1900lbs w/ driver. He used to spray it w/ a little smaller engine to the tune of a best of a 6.66 @ 208!

What I found with my 1150HP is without the powervalve, it is really fat in the burnout. 4k-5k then it cleans up real fast when you get to about 6k, causing me to blip the rev limiter ocasionally. With the PV it does not do this. I have not tried removing the intermediate air bleeds but that would likely help as well, and you may not have to run the PV. Just my opinion from my experience. Good luck!

Jbird very nice 69 . I had a 68 rs ss that i sold when i built my house boy i miss that car it had the 327 with a powerglide . can you tell me do you run a pv now and what is your jetting with the pv the 496 that came out of the vette had 77s in the front with the pv.

When I last ran on gas (run alky now), I had the front PV in, and 82 front 90 rear, or 84/92. Can't remember which. This was in hot 4500+ DA weather. I actually back to backed with and without the PV and there was no difference in ET. The burnout is very clean and smooth with the PV in though. And again this is an 1150 vs your 1050. It's part number 80556 I believe. The HP's seem to have a pretty bad problem of being too rich part throttle without the PV in the front, or without modifications to fix it. JMHO.
