What is the correct location for the radio antenna on a '69 Chevelle Coupe. Thanks for help....

the "correct" placement would be the right rear quarter panel, on top, next to the trunk lid......I personally prefer front right fender next to the hood, just my .02

ALthough a lot of them were on the rear, most 69's had them originally on the front fender

Mine is on the front passenger fender.

Don't take this as gospel, but I think that the rear antenna was only available on AM pushbutton cars. If you got AM/FM or AM/FM Stereo, it had a front fender antenna.

I'm pretty sure the right front fender mounted antenna was standard with any radio. The rear mounted antenna was optional (only with AM I've heard): RPO U73, Manual Rear Antenna, $9.50. 33,117 installed.

Mine was an AM pushbutton radio. I still have it too! (in a box in my garage)

Guess I should clear up what I was trying to say. I think the only way to get a rear antenna was (as an option) with an AM only pushbutton radio.

Thanks guys, I believe the front passenger fender wins out. Guess I will drill the hole before we squirt the new dark green metallic(code 57) on her.

You will want to use a hole saw to make the hole for your antenna. But I can't remember the size. Any help here Guys.

PLEASE get pictures when you are finished! My '69 was originally #57, Fathom Green. I am going to finally do the bodywork/paint on my car in the next few months and I'm strongly considering going back with the original Fathom Green and white SS side stripes. I've only seen one '69 like that, which is why I'd really like some pictures of yours!

Personally, I'm going to go with an under-headliner hidden antenna when I repaint my car. My car currently has the antenna on the PS front fender, and originally came with an AM pushbutton radio.

Also, what brand of paint are you going with? Can they still mix #57 out of the book?

I found a two piece punch (Greeley Punch?) to work much better than a hole saw... Although it might be more expensive to just purchase one for one little job...
