My Chevelle has VIN # 138177A******, I have confirmed the same VIN numbers on the engine pad, (serial #) under the heater box, and under the cowl vent, so I'm pretty sure it's for real.
Thanks to this site and Colvin's book I have decoded the cowl tag

ST 67-13817 ATL 13993 BODY

This designates: build date of 2nd week of April, Model year 1967, 13817 as Chevrolet Super Sport, 2 door, Atlanta, Tracking number 13993, Options E2ZGR meaning tinted glass all, M40 TH400 trans, Console, and rear speaker.
Even the TH400 seems to check out ok with the codes: CC 67 11621 (although I don't know what the 11621 represents?)
Casting numbers on the engine blocks and heads all check out fine, what I'm not sure about is the date span. The intake manifold is dated B 9 7 (Feb 9, 67) the right head is B 7 7 (Feb 7, 67) left head is A 20 7 (Jan 20, 67) and the engine pad stamp is T0213ET (Feb 13). Thats' two months from the actual build date. From what I've read on this site that's probably ok, but I need reassurance. I've read elsewhere the span should only be 3 to 4 weeks. Any comments?

As long as the engine #'s mach the Vin. 2 months is not unheard of. The 325hp version was used most, so more were built which could lead to a little more shelf time.
CC = 396 (325) chevelle,camaro
67 = year
11621 = Trans serial #

I agree with Scott. My '66 has about a 3 week difference, but 2 months doesn't seem out of line with all the individual dates being in harmony.

Two months would certainly not be unusual. Better two months early than two months late!

Thanks for the confirmation, all. I thought that with all the engine components being close in date codes it was ok, but some "book authorities" claim otherwise. Also because the engine pad is stamped-clearly- with the VIN I felt it must be ok. I haven't located a VIN on the frame yet. I've tried to locate a number on the frame behind the driver's back wheel but haven't located any. The 2 serials #s I did find (under the cowl vent panel, and under the heater box were nice and big and distinct. Wish I could find the build sheet, but I've gone through every possible location it could be in and come up with nothing. The car is solid and rust free. The only replacement I can find is the left rear quarter. At one point the car had been in an accident and the fender replaced with a Malibu fender. Therefore any plastic I've found is the filler for the Malibu trim.
