I recently bought a 67 Malibu. The previous owner painted the entire center section of the grill black. I think he was trying to make it look like an SS grill, but it really doesn't! I would like to get the paint off, but don't want to destroy the metal finish. I don't think it's chrome plated, I think its anodized. I have tried mineral spirits & lacquer thinner, they won't take the paint off. I'm afraid to use anything stronger. Any help is appreciated!

Try lacquer thinner, I can remove overspray from paint on the body (don't try it if it's BC/CC though, only enamel!)so that might work, I doubt it'll remove the anodizing either. Keep rewetting the rag and you'll get there eventually.

The oven cleaner removes/mess up the aniodizing. Try paint stripper.

I have had success with Goof-Off , on various things. As with any solvents, test the area B-4 applying it Libeally.
