(After a search of course) Wondered if anyone has had good luck with the CC XS290 cam for SBC's?
I'm currently running a XS282 and would like to up the ante and a bit more HP.

1 7/8 headers into a 3 inch exhaust

3200 pound Nova
My peak was 5800 on a chassis dyno...I would like to shift at 7000 compared to the current 6500. Why...because it sounds so good. :)
Any experiences/comments are welcome.

I am running a XS290 in my 385ci SB. I have AFR 195 heads, 10.5 to 1 comp. a Edelbrock Victor Jr and an 825 Mighty Demon. 1 3/4 headers into 2 1/2 system. I dynoed at 409 RWHP right at 6000 rpm. I did have a little breaking up right at that rpm so I might have gone slightly higher. I was running a stock dist with the points firing a Crane HI6 box. I am now running a MSD dist with the Crane box. This should help any misfiring I was having. You have a few more CI than me so you will make a little more Hp and torque but I think this cam is great. I will be back at the dyno this spring when I get the car back together.

72LT1: Thanks for the reply. I'm surprised at your peak power point. I would think it would be higher with less inches and more cam than my current XS282. I will say the 282 seems to be a great 'all-around' cam as it pulls down low, super easy to drive in traffic, and will still air out the topend. Just not enough up top for my liking...not too mention I've built it with the case of the 'bigs.' :)

I think some of it had to be the misfiring dist. I am changing that out this winter and hope to be back at the dyno this spring. I was told this was to big for my motor by a lot of people. I idles fine and pulls real hard from 3000 rpm on up. I don't spend a lot of time below this rpm so it suits me fine. I like big cams also. Like to hear the motor rpms

Imho, any 290 cam need's right at 11 to 1 CR!

I'm running the 294s...With 11.5 komp Works wonders !!! engine is like a cobra.........

Swapping head gaskets would be my only choice (10.7) unless I deck the heads to get to anything higher than currently.
I will have to give it some more thought.
