Thanks to GSX70, I was able to get the correct formula for Saturn Yellow used on 1970 GSX's.

I think I still want to lighten that color up however.

Here is the formula for 8 oz. of PPG DBU Saturn Yellow.

DMD 663 7.9 White
DMD 648 21.2 Weak Black
DMD 639 46.5 Med. Chrome Yel
DMD 643 87.3 Lt. Chrome Yel
DBX 695 145.9 Clear Base

Here's a formula that I came up with, if anyone mixes this stuff, let me know if you see any problems.

DMD 663 12.9
DMD 648 11.2
DMD 639 46.5
DMD 643 92.3
DBX 695 145.9

Keeping the total weight the same, I removed some black and replaced it with white & light chrome yellow.

Any ideas, suggestions?

When you start messing around with color mixing your bound too run into a few problems.. If I were you, I'd go too your local PPG dealer, give them your mixing ratios, and ask if they will mix too determine if the color is correct. However, they may start charging you for each quart they mix and that my friend can get pretty expensive! Good Luck..

What kind of problems?

Can messing around with the distribution of pigment affect the paint in any way?

No it won't effect the paint.. but nailing down a color takes time and effort.. not too mention ALOT of paint. of course that is if you wanted too change your formula to an unknown or unmixed color... The few problems I'm talking about is the time spent and paint spent on mixing, and shooting test panels.. it has the potential too be a very long quest...

ETD66SS, It is much easier to darken a color then lighten it up. You dont need to keep the total weight the same. I would have another batch of paint mixed up but this time leave out all of the black but have them put the black in a seprate container, that way you can add black as needed.
