I have to decide by next week what clear we are going to shoot over Dad's PPG DBC Flame Red Solid on his 53 Chevy show truck to be. I have a good buddy that swears 2002 is the best, but the jobber says 2002 is for bake booths and 2021 is the best and then I still have half a gallon of 2042 left from the wifes car. I would love to shoot the 2055 that Eric likes so much but the jobber would have to special order it and from Eric's war stories of the first coat I don't trust my abilities that well, YET
Any opinions?

TIA Zach

I think Eric likes the 2042 also, so you should probably go with that. Did it work well on your wifes car? I have tried to get some feedback on the 2002 also , but with no luck.

Zach and Texas, I do have some info on the 2002 clear. I stated earlier in another post Ive NEVER sprayed this clear or know of ANYONE using it.

From what I gather from the rep and from the sheets its pretty much a spray booth clear ONLY product. Without the proper air flow this clear can dieback smile.gif . Dieback can be caused by lack of air movement to remove the escaping solvents from the air. The solvents escape from the curing clear but fall back onto the paint surface because of the lack of air movement to remove those solvents.

Zach, Id keep the 2042. The one thing on 2042 that Ive seen and have heard from other PPG shops that spray 2042, is on light colors(basically white) it has a rap of turing yellow.

Pretty much 2021, 2042 or 2055 will make a sweet clear.

On a side note Texas,
I JUST got done painting a 98 Dodge painted SILVER and that bright blue you ask about before. Ill get my digtal cam and take a few shots for ya. It looks pretty slick...Eric

Texas, I got some pics for you. Its that bright blue color you asked about before. Its OEM code PB3 or VB3, listed as both. The silver is a grayish silver OEM code RPK.

Might be ya an idea on what you want that chevelle to look like.

Pay NO attention to the white inside its gonna get a spray on liner smile.gif
