the idiot that had my car before me didn't do a very good job taping it off before he painted. there is paint on some of the pieces of chrome. what is the best way to get it off. i really want to avoid re-chroming.

Laquer thinner should so the trick. Don't use steel wool or scotchbrite.

thanks. it worked really well.

also, is it possible to patch chrome? the last guy drilled some holes through it for a bed cover or something. once again trying to avoid rechroming.

Its possible to make small repairs on chrome using whats called the brush method. The anode(+ charge) is wrapped in a "bandage" and the copper, nickel, and chromic acid soulutions are brushed on each with thier own anode. This method is used for gold plating because of the high cost of gold solution. Sounds like filling the hole you described might be easier finding new pieces? Plus it all depends on what kind of metal you're dealing with.

that sounds complicated. i don't need it restored back to show quality because it is just going to be a daily driver. could i just fill the holes with a metal filler or something and have it look decent? i just want to get them filled so water doesn't get underneath the chrome and rust out my quarters again.
