Go into a GM closed chamber head, #215? That shouldnt be a problem, right? Im going to be taking a set to the machinist for larger valves, but I was thinking if Im going bigger, I will likely go 2.25 instead of 2.19.

Over what bore? What rpm and what cam and springs? That is a heavy valve to control and needs a big bore even with the canted valve.

I know for a fact a 2.25" intake will fit :)

Thanks Chris. Ironhead, it's a 4.350 bore, and prob. no more than 6K, maybe 6200.

If you are putting a 2.25 valve in a 215 head, be sure you have a good head porter to cut the chamber right for shrouding issues as well as being sure your block is notched.

block does not have to be notched! i ran 215's with 2.25 for yrs ask epistuff he is still running my old heads .

Yep, I have 2.25" intake on a 4.28" bore. The top of the cylinder is not notched either. (I wish it was, an oversight on my part during the build:sad: ) I checked clearances, it was about as tight as you want to go. About .050" radial between the edge of the valve and the cylinder wall at it's closest point during valve travel.

From what I understand, a good valved head use's 2.25"/1.94", but both may not fit in stock heads, but only like for one, the cast-iron Merlin large oval heads??

I really meant be sure to cut the chamber after installing a 2.25 valve in a 215 head for shrouding issues as well as notching the block to help the shrouding issues, not clearance.

chamber more important for unshrouding than the block. im running 10's rite now with no block shrouding!

I agree. At max lift and the overbore..the canted 2.250 is unshrouded.I believe the General accomplished two things with the open chamber design.A..unshrouded the valves at all lifts.B..Still maintaned quench and squish where it matters most to ward off colliding flame fronts and cleaned up that unburned A/f hiding under the plug side quench surface in a bath tub chamber.
