: Carrier I.D. Help Needed
onabudget Jan 6th, 07, 1:59 PM I have a 10 bolt carrier that is what I thought an 8.2 chevy. Many are telling me it doesn't look right. There are NO casting numbers. There are US and Canadian Patent numbers on it (US) 2821096 and (CAN) N2820899
There is also a partial stamping on the machined 'side' surface next to the 'window' its possible:
K3 18 (or 15 oe 13)
K5 18
K8 18
The K could also be an N or R
Definately no casting numbers next to the bearing opposite the ring gear.
It did have a ring gear on it GM3790628, translating to a 8.2 3:36 gearset.
Some are telling me its a BOP, here are some pics.
Doug Garland Jan 6th, 07, 3:01 PM Looks like a B-O-P 8.2 posi. to me also.

Thanks Doug,
Does anyone know for sure???
big gear head Jan 6th, 07, 9:00 PM That is an early Auburn. It looks similar to the BOP Borg Warner, but it isn't. The BOP Borg Warner doesn't have any windows in the side because there are no c clips to install. It also has 4 pinion gears instead of 2. The early Auburn had a 2 piece bolt together case, but they later went to a screw in cap on the end.

So this is NOT a BOP, correct. Good to go on a Chevy 8.2!!
Thanks
big gear head Jan 7th, 07, 1:54 PM I don't know what it came out of. It could be out of a BOP 10 bolt, but I haven't seen one of those in the BOP. I also haven't seen one in the 8.2 Chevy 10 bolt either. The only thing that I have seen them in is the 8.5 corporate 10 bolt. The bolts are too small for the 8.5, so it is probably out of the 8.2 Chevy or BOP. You will need to do some measuring to see what it will fit.
onabudget Jan 7th, 07, 1:59 PM Would the Chevy 8.2 ring gear fit on a BOP carrier? Just trying to narrow it down.
big gear head Jan 7th, 07, 2:02 PM Yes, I think it will fit. The BOP differential will not have a space in the axle gear for a c clip. Try installing a Chevy c clip axle in the case and see if it will work.
onabudget Jan 7th, 07, 2:11 PM Gotta find one, I know there is a few laying around the garage, but by visual inspection it looks 'recessed' where the c-clip would go.
onabudget Jan 7th, 07, 2:24 PM Can't find a c-clip but here is a pic:
big gear head Jan 7th, 07, 2:44 PM Could be for a Chevy. I'd check it out well before trying to install it.
