Wondering what the acceptable amount of free play on a new timing chain set is?

Also, do timing chain manf. offer slightly shorter sets for motors that end of with too much free play?

I don't recall what the acceptable slack measurement is, but there are slightly shorter sets available for engines which have been line bored and the crank has been moved slightly closer to the cam.
