: Engine Installation Check List

Last August I purchased a 69 Malibu with no motor. Body in great shape but interior is a disaster. Since then, I have been spending my weekends underneath the car cleaning, prepping, painting, repairing and replacing everything from gas tank and body bushings to front suspension and disc brake conversion.

In late November I ordered a turn-key crate 350 from a local builder which I am planning on picking up in a couple of weeks. My question is; Does anybody have a check list for installing the new motor?

I didn't pull the original motor out so I don't know each and every step that needs to be followed. I've done an engine swap about 22 years ago on my 68 Camaro but my Malibu is pretty much gutted under the hood.

I'll have some semi-qualified help for this but I want to have everything I need and be able to plan this out so it goes as smooth as possible.

Car came with T-400 and I pulled that out and had it rebuilt so it's ready to bolt up when I bring the engine home.

I searched the Forums here but was unable to come up with what I need.

Any help is greatly appreciated.

Thank you, Ron

I have recently done two engine swaps on my chevelles. The best advice I would give is to take it a step at a time. As far as a check list everyone is going to do things a little different. I would not prime the motor until it is ready to be fired up. Get the motor dropped in, secured and bolted to the tranny. Then just start knocking things out, headers, alt, ps, fuel lines, ect. When you get stuck on something post it up and everyone will help you get it solved (or utilize the search function).

I am sure the seasoned veterans will chime in with some valuable advice.....

My best advice would be to not rush, take your time. Whats one more day, or even week.
