self etching primer. Going to replace the seam sealer on the cowl/firewall area. I've cleaned out the old and degreased. Don't think it's proper or a good idea to apply seam sealer(bought at NAPA) over bare metal so I thought I'd rattle can self etching primer over the seams and apply seam sealer or por over seams then seam sealer? Right, wrong? Your input is appreciated. Thanks Pete

Definately put some primer down before seam sealer. Self etch or epoxy over bare metal.

I used some of the Rust Encapsulator from Eastwood before I put down new seam sealer on both my cars. It's acts as a primer ans prevents new rust from forming.

Yes that sealer is fine over etch, just NEVER apply sealer over bare metal!
One thing on etch is that you have acids evaporating out. If you apply that sealer to soon if will lose adhesion.
So wait a good hour or even two before appling that seaaler over etch.
