having major problem with hood hinges old hinges were causing the hood to rub on only opening on the drivers side of my 70 conv painted car on saturday before we went into booth put on brand new gm hinges and springs. seemed ok well after opening the hood several times i noticed its rubbing again on the drivers side. it removed the new paint inside the fender and hood area not noticable when the hood is closed barely noticable when opened but verrrrrryyyyyy annoying. it only rubs on mid openning not when closing. the lines are perfect when the hood is closed. it seems as though the left hood hinge may be opening easier therefor pushing the hood over until it rubs then when the hood opens more it evens out tried lubbing the passenger side hinge to open easier but didnt work either. anybody have this problem and how can i fix it. by the way its a gm cowl induction hood.
thanx

If the factory rivited hinge points are OK, I'd say you need new springs. Not used ones, but new ones.

Did you bolt the new hinges in the VERY same location as the old ones? Sounds like you just need to adjust the new hinges a little to get them to open evenly. You'll have to experement on moving them around a little by little till you get the results you need.

try putting a shim under the hinge where it mounts to the fender. that should bring it in away from the fender maybe. ? http://www.chevelles.com/forum/confused.gif

I had the same problem on my 71 chevelle.
had to put a fender shim between the hinge and the passenger side fender.
