: Correct Sport mirror identification 72
Jason Shulenberger May 3rd, 02, 4:56 PM I need to be able to identify a CORRECT Sport Mirror for a 72 Chevelle. Any hints, markings, angles, etc that are distinguishable?
If you have a photo of these either mounted, or not, please post them here, or Email them to me. This is for both driver, and passenger side mirrors.
If you can assist in donor car identification, (including other years of Chevelle) that would be helpful. This is for a Correct mirror only. I know that you can try to modify others, but I am not interested in that.
Noneck May 3rd, 02, 11:31 PM WElcome to the long list of us searching for those mirrors! The bases for these mirrors will be just about parallel to the bottom edge of the mirror head. I don't know the part #'s though. I see a lot of so called SS mirrors going on ebay including a set that recently went for over $400 for used mirrors and I'm pretty sure they were WRONG for our cars!

Jason Shulenberger May 4th, 02, 9:54 AM I know it will be a long search. It has already. I most likely will stick to chrome mirrors for now, but will continue to search for the correct information for these. I looked through the archives, and found no conclusive information on these. Including one question from me back in 99. So yes, I have already been looking for a long time as well.
If anyone has a correct set of these either on, or off the car, I would love to see pictures. If I find some, I will write up all the information I can, along with photos, and post it here.
Jason Shulenberger May 7th, 02, 10:58 AM Noneck: I see from your 72 that you have had both the chrome, and the Sport mirrors on your car. Are the mounting holes the same for both mirrors?
I need to modify my passenger door for mirrors before painting, and will most likely install the chrome mirrors unless I find some sport mirrors soon. I plan to use the driver door as a guide for the passenger door. Am I right on with this?
Noneck May 7th, 02, 6:40 PM Yes, the mounting holes are the same. THe sport mirrors in some of the pictures were the reproduction set. I think they have been discontinued due to their lousy fit. They were definitely not correct. I still have them and will get them to fit eventually! I spent many hours just to get them like they were. I had to grind the bases and reshape them with a hammer and dolly. They are close but not close enough yet! To make matters worse, I found a guy that has a NOS pair that he won't part with! I have an original drivers side I think I will use and then just try to get the pass side corrected. It appears that I am going to have to fabricate the mounting brackets. Also from what I can see, there are no part #'s stamped into my original.

Jason Shulenberger May 7th, 02, 9:53 PM Thanks for the info. Are the dimensions for the passenger door mounting the same as the drivers door? I plan to use the driver door as a guide. Will this work?
Noneck May 8th, 02, 4:24 AM Well, I guess the dimensions are. That's what I did! My car is a fake...

knipe May 8th, 02, 10:50 PM My 72 has an original sport mirror on the drivers side (it's a remote mirror) but nothing on the passenger side.
