: Anyone ever make an "imprint" of emblem holes?

From time to time, I've seen TC'ers asking about where to drill fender holes for SS emblems, or the like. I got to thinking, has anyone ever taken a piece of clean white paper and made an "impression" of the emblem holes in a factory drilled fender? I seems to me this would be a perfect method of transferring marks to an undrilled fender. All that would be required is a donor fender from a verified SS car, some time and a postage stamp. The recipient would then align the sheet of paper with the baseline "lines" at 20" up and 5" forward (per the GM assembly manual) and make transfer punch marks. Am I all wet here, or would this work?

I dont see why it wouldn't but you would need to trust this person and their steady hand. I wouldn't do it if someone else was lining up the wholes, but if I was doing it I would give it a whirl…

Gregg, It will work. I had the guys at Sundell make "patterns" for me for my fenders and my trunk emblem. They faxed it to me and it worked out fine for me.

Jeff-

Did the fax machine reproduce the holes in the same scale? I've seen some fax machines print out slightly smaller than the original documents. Come to think of it, probably the best way of doing this would be with a piece of wide masking tape. Thanks for the quick response guys.

I have made this template and it works great. I have also sent it out to a few people who used it with great results. If you need a template email me with your address and I will send you one.
