Hello,

I am a newbie on this board and am looking for some help. This is my second chevelle. My first one was a 67 ss hardtop some years ago and since then I have owned several pro touring camaros. Well I have since bought a 70 chevelle ss convertible but have some questions about the 70 chevelles in general. I hope you can bear with me as I am not that experienced with the chevelles and am looking to get as informed as possible so here it goes and thanks in advance:thumbsup:

1. My chevelle has a black exterior with WHITE stripes and a RED interior Is this a normal color combo?

2. Did the stripes on an SS only come in Black and White or were there other colors available from the factory?

3. The SS dashes I see around are all BLACK including the glove box. If I have an original RED interior do I need to paint it RED? or do they sell them for red interiors? (Mine has a covans dash insert in it which is red along with the rest of the dash and I am thinking of switching back since I like the stock look)

4. I notice that hood pins are on alot of chevelle ss cars but I only see them on HARDTOPS with the COWL INDUCTION FLAP? This is a two part question.... First are the hoodpins used only on hardtops? and if the answer is no then are they only used on TRUE COWL INDUCTION HOODS WITH THE FLAPS or were they available on the non flap cowl induction hoods as well?

Like I said I am trying to get as much info on these cars as I can so any info would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks
Mark

Welcome to TC :)

1. That is a rare combo and certainly possible.Might want to post your cowl tag numbers
2.Stripes only came in white or black
3.Only the gauge area is black, rest of the dash is interior color unless its white.
4.Hood pins only came on the hood with the flap in 1970
Hood pins did not come on non functional "flapper" hoods.
However,in 71 and 72 non functional hoods got hood pins like the functional hoods

Well here are a couple of them. I just got it about a week ago from a guy in Texas. It is a beast of a motor! Love the rims, they are 18;s but have that stock SS rim look. Let me know what you think...

YUP Red as a babboons... well you know what!! The cowl tag said it has a 19 paint code and 787 interior code. When I looked in the book it translates to a tuxedo black exterior and a RED interior!! Here is what the cowl tag reads on it. From what I can gather it is a Baltimore plant car so the accessory code location "0755" I was told is an accounting or book keeping number used for that plant. Also the "2b" I was told was the build date of the second week of February... I would love to know more about the car so any other info would be great. Also, are there other areas on the chevelle that would have car info on it? The car was restored about three years ago so I am sure the build sheet is long gone but it is worth a try just to get ANY INFO I can on this car. Here it is....

787 19B
2B B 0755

Hey thanks but I cant take the credit for its current state. I bought it that way from a guy in Texas... Funny thing is I am finding more and more evidence to support the fact that this MAYBE a real SS car!! I know it doesnt mean squat without the buildsheet but its kind of nice to have a possible ss car with more than just badges and grills for proof... BTW finally found how to add a pic so hopefully this works!!
