Hello from Metro Detroit
Hey all, I thought I would make my first post and introduce myself. I’m a gearhead living in (where else?) Metro Detroit. Born in 1974 and raised in a musclecar family (my dad was into Olds 442s and Pontiac GTOs), I grew up going to car shows and learning musclecars. My dad is great with numbers, colors, options, etc. but is very mechanically challenged. I looked into buying a 1968-72 Chevelle in high school, but my dad wanted me to have a “safe, reliable newer car with disc brakes”. In college I decided it was time to expand my car knowledge with hands-on experience and bought a 1971 Volkswagen Super Beetle. Over a couple years (as my tight budget would allow) I built it into a Cal-Looker, complete with lowered stance, vintage wheels, 1776cc engine, and safety upgrades like 4-wheel disc brakes and 3-point retractable seat belts. However, my heart was always yearning for a musclecar. I graduated from Ohio State in 1998, moved to Michigan to work as an engineer for General Motors, bought a house, newer daily driver, got engaged, etc. For my next automotive purchase, I have my sights set on a 1969 Chevelle/Malibu, once I have the extra money and space. I’m not sure if I want it to be a 1960s vintage machine (ie, period correct speed parts, Cragar wheels, etc) or go Pro-Touring with larger wheels and an LSx engine. I have a lot of time to figure out my gameplan before I make a purchase.
I joined Team Chevelle to read the forums and look at cars and parts for sale. Please post links for any info on LSx swaps or suspension upgrades here. Thanks!
