: Project pics - lifting the body
Herb Jan 9th, 05, 11:50 AM For the morbidly curious who want to gloat with "glad it's not me facing that mess", here's a couple of pics:
Had a few rust pinholes in the trunk. The cab floor was much worse.

We had a 1/4 inch clearance above the tires. Ah, what great planning.
Freddy Mercado Jan 9th, 05, 11:52 AM WOW!!!, but I guess it works. I think the pin holes in the trunk are fixable!!!! graemlins/hurray.gif
Herb Jan 9th, 05, 11:55 AM Nope. Found a donor body that will be fixed much cheaper.
Texas Mike Jan 9th, 05, 1:02 PM Here is my preferred method of lifting the body......but I am lazy!
I am real close to being ready to set the body back on.

Finally Jan 9th, 05, 3:50 PM Herb if you go filling all those 'pinholes' that extra weight will ruin your 1/4 mile ET. Just something you may want to think about. :D
Here's what the last guy used. Really cuts down on the weight problem.

Thanks Mike. But we're just poor country folk up here in Virginia. tongue.gif
Finally Jan 9th, 05, 7:19 PM Yea, that's the way to go. A couple cans of that spray foam insulation from Home Depot and you're all set. graemlins/clonk.gif
Texas Mike Jan 9th, 05, 9:07 PM I'm in the same boat with you Herb! I bought that lift VERY used from a tire store that went out of business. I paid less for it than a lot of people pay for a good floor jack!
From the looks of things you are in to this project neck deep. i know the feeling all to well. Good luck and keep us posted on the progress.
Mike
Herb Jan 10th, 05, 2:08 PM Thanks Mike, glug glug.
I'm only up to my ears because of where my head is right now :D
EddieF Jan 10th, 05, 3:27 PM Cool, Herb! I hadn't seen your car before even though we live close. Sorry bout that.
At the pace mine is coming along, you will pass me before long!
Speaking of which, what's the deal with your donor car, any extra pieces of that or the red one that you might have leftover??
Ed.
Herb Jan 10th, 05, 4:34 PM Hi Ed, good to hear from you.
Yeah, I'll have left-overs. So far I have a taker for the extra frame. I have a complete dash with A/C I'll be letting go. I'll be converting to non-A/C by moving the dash and all the non-A/C components to the new body from the red one. They'll be all kinds of bits and pieces. I even have some extra "custom" door panels I'll post a pic of in a couple of days. ;)
Tom Stewart Jan 11th, 05, 8:17 AM Herb,
Gosh is my ole lady gonna be upset. Just finished the body off on my `65 and really thought to myself "thank God it's over". But after looking art your pictures I have identified the recent pain in my chest, it's withdrawl!!!
Guess I'll just have to look for another reason to sleep on the couch for another 3 years, gosh I loved that couch too.
Hey, when I was preparing to lift the body, I found a diamond ring stuck between the gas tank and the floor pan. That made the wife smile, only for a moment though.
Later,
Tom

In Houston That is truly bizarre. Wouldn't you just love to know the story behind how that got there?
Hey Tom, if you're really having withdrawal, I'd hate to see you have health issues because of it. Maybe I should drive around your '65 while you finish my '66!
Ed.
notstock71 Jan 11th, 05, 3:09 PM Herb, that donor car have good glass in it? I am looking for tinted side glass to replace ours. Ours is pitted pretty bad.
Herb Jan 11th, 05, 4:06 PM I can recall. I'll check it next time I'm at the shop where we're doing the body. Right now I'm focused on the frame at my place so i'll be a few weeks. I'll try to get back to you, if not, keep buggin me. I do know the windshield and rear window is probably no good.
