: starting to rust

I have a 1972 Chevelle SS, 350 2brl, red with a black top. It seems to be showing some signs of rust bubbling under the black top and starting to work its way down towards the quarters (both sides) and below the rear window just above the trunk lid.
Is there anything that I can do to halt the cancer before it eats its way down into the trunk. Is there a way that I can take off the chrome moldings that separate the black top from the quarters? Is this common for this to happen with the black top option?
Thanks
Joe

vinyl tops are rust breeders. You can remove the trim along the bottom of the vinyl top and peel back the material to see what you have. If itsnt bad you can make the repair and then glue the top back down...but if the top has been on a long time and out in the weather dont be suprised if there are major problems under there. I have pulled back tops and found NO metal underneath in places. I love vinyl tops but wouldnt put on a car that wasnt garaged.
