Looks like the tank in my SS is leaking where the filler neck meets the tank. I checked new tanks in the OPG catalog but found two variations and wonder which is correct for my car.

One states "With neck W/O EEC" the other "With neck EEC".

I believe they are refering to Evaporative Emissions, but what do I look for on the car to know which is correct.

My SS (built in Atlanta) does not have the canister on the rad support that my Malibu (built in California) does. Is this EEC?

Is there a short term fix anyone knows of?
I am OK with replacing the tank since one of the previous owners painted this one gloss black. Which I understand is not correct for the car as far as I know. I would like to wait a bit and do more underside painting once I find out what finish is correct for most parts. But I am not good with gas dripping from the tank in my garage:(

Thanks

I may be mistaken but I believe that the difference is that the neck with the EEC designation will only accept the new smaller diameter gasoline nozzles and the non-EEC neck will take both old and new.

The newer neck is for those nozzles that are designed for unleaded gas and here in California the hoses also have to recover fuel vapors.

This is an unsubstantiated guess on my part but I think thats the difference.

I will check with the guys at OPG but I hate to rely on parts places for too much tech stuff.

I may not have a leak after all. I checked this morning and there is no fuel on the bottom of the tank or around the neck now. I am thinking the fuel cap may not be correct. I noticed it is just a bit loose. It may be a seep problem around the cap when the car is moving. There is evidence of that on the neck also. But like I said I will most likely replace the tank anyway to have one that looks better than all that gloss black paint on the one in the car now.
