Hi!
Just wondering if the 65 and 64 (4door)Malibus have the same doors? It's just that I'm in Finland and parts are scarce, and I'm being offered som '64 4d doors for practically nothing. Can I use them? what about the decoratory panels on the doors? Are they the same?

Thanks for your help!!!

Yes, it's cold in Finland and yes, there are Chevelles here.

Just to be clear, the doors from a 4dr Malibu will fit a 4dr 300, there are no 4dr SS models. But a 4dr door will not fit a 2dr Malibu or SS. There is a difference between a Malibu and a SS door, the Malibu has trim holes through the center beltline of the door, the SS has holes along the top contour line. The holes can be welded or drilled for the appropriate trim, but of course this requires additional bodywork. The 65 and 64 doors are the same in shape and size, again the trim holes are different between the years.

The SS interior panels would be different from a Malibu panel. It would have a SS enblem, the Malibu would be plain.

I've had some people contest this, but as far as I know, 64 and 65 doors will not interchange. The reason is that the hinges are different. As a result, the shape of the door where the hinge bolts on is different.

Wes I was told the same thing. I have three
64 and one 65.
from what I see. The hinges are different. but the Cowl section are the same.
So I keep the 65 hinges on 65 door and 64's on 64's when replacing doors. BTDT.

So you're saying that if I get the hinges with the door I'm OK? Thanks for you're help.
For reference I'll just say that my car is a 65 4dr Malibu with the 230 6-syl and 3+overdrive trans. It is in original condition, now staring to show it's age and time in Finland, i.e. 37 years in Finnish weather will do things to a car (mainly rust). But I'm beginning the resto in small stages now...

Yes Sam. The 4 door's off a 64 will fit a your 65 4 door. just watch you don't mix up the hinges.
