In trying to figure out the pieces of this puzzle it kind of dawned on me that I wasn't even sure if the insulation should lay front to rear, like on the upper part of the cowl butted against the Firewall insulation, or installed right under the dash in which the fiber material would be visible through the openings in the steel part of the dash before installing the dash pad?
This was a "ground up" purchase and in reading all the previous posts regarding this "underdash insulation" there are many that were "puzzled" as to how this is suppose to install.
I do want it in so leaving it out is not an option although I anticipate some modifications to the process, (I'll just have to deal with that). So.....from which direction...front to rear or curled under the dash and rear to front.
Any inputs appreciated
Lou

I have the dash partially apart on my Malibu (with AC) right now and see the dash insulation. It looks like it's just on the underside of the part that's forward of the windshield, probably to insulate the cold or hot air moving through the cowl area and against engine noise. There's also insulation on the backside of the kick panels.

Thanks for the reply and nice pic.
Can you tell me if the insulation is cut around, or comes close to the defroster ducts? (Y-Duct).
Feeling a little closer to something here with your info. I have it laid out like that and it seems to fit very roughly.
Can you tell if the insulation comes as far rear ward (back from the windshield) as the front speaker bracket?

Good stuff, thanks

Just took another look. It stops well forward of the speaker bracket. It actually stops about 2" in front of the "U" shaped rear of the defroster duct.

I had that stuff on mine. I did not see a real purpose for it, so I did not reinstall it on the resto.
