: How Do The Inner Fenders Go Onto The Fenders?
malibu man Jul 20th, 02, 9:12 PM I'm having trouble putting my new fenders and inner fenders together. I drilled the holes and only a couple seem to line up. Does the inner fender go inside or outside of that lower lip? I assume inside but it just doesn't look right. I need help please.

malibu man Jul 20th, 02, 9:45 PM Thanks!! Isn't the wheel well trim molding supposed to go on the outside of the fender lip?

68ElCamino Jul 20th, 02, 9:52 PM Yes they do. You will need to drill seperate holes to mount them. A phillips washer head screw (typical of the screws used in the interior) about #6 x 1/4 is used to mount the moldings.
malibu man Jul 20th, 02, 10:56 PM I can't mount them on the outside, because there is a brace on the back side of the front of the right fender. I wish I had some sort of a picture so I could see what to do. The Haynes shop manual doesn't show much, they have the inner fender mounted inside, on top, of the fender lip.

rick Jul 21st, 02, 12:31 AM Definitely on the outside. The trim will still mount correctly.

MalibuJerry350 Jul 21st, 02, 8:56 AM My first question is "what holes did you have to drill??" The holes in the outer fenders for the inners should already be there! The same with the inner fenders. If there is a need to drill holes, step back and take a second look because something doesn't sound right.

malibu man Jul 21st, 02, 9:42 AM The guy that I bought the fiberglass inners from, already had holes marked on the inners. I double checked them with my old ones. Then I drilled the holes. I'm just confused on what you mean by outside, because that won't work on the back end because of the brace. Should I take a pic with the digital camera?

malibu man Jul 21st, 02, 9:04 PM Anyone??? Is their something wrong with the fenders? The marks are located at the same spot on the new inners as the old inners. About ready to totally give up.

sevt_chevelle Jul 21st, 02, 10:02 PM The problem is not the fenders but those cheap fiberlgass inners you have. There was a reason why he sold them they are junk plain and simple.
All right the inners bolt on the outside lip of the fender. Every car built is like that inner bolts to the outer lip. So if you are confused go look at your mom's car. Now that front brace you talk about gets bolted on after you have bolted the inner in. The inner sits on top of the core support, the area right behind the headlights. There is what 5 bolts I think, that brace gets bolted to the third bolt from the right, if you are looking straight from it. It goes on the bottom of the core support, so its brace core and then innerwheel well.
I would recommend that you trash those pieces of junk inners you have and buy a pair of steel ones from goodmark. Also get on ebay and buy yourself and factory assembly manual the best tool you will have and also get a better memory of how the car goes back together

malibu man Jul 22nd, 02, 10:41 AM Thanks! Well, I went the cheap way and didn't save up. I've got a Hayne's manual, but that doesn't do any good. What I meant was the inner has to mount on the inside of the wheel well lip. That's the way they look on other vehicles.
