Came across a 512 4bolt CRV BLock, dated k49. Found out a little history , guy said he remembered it being pulled from a dark Green Chevelle way back when. Vin# is 10A125517. Really funny thing is on the front of the block under the water pump cover on the engine casting, it has Hi PER ASS stamped in high raised letters, I know it should say HI PER PASS, I swear, I looked it over really close and there is nothing grinded off, any thoughts on this, I will post a pic tomorrow. Just though I may be able to hook someone up with their original block if not its probably going on ebay.

The raised letters on a block pattern are just attached to the pattern. Sometimes they come off and some blocks are cast before it is noticed and fixed.

Close but not mine... OR not from the tag I removed from a LS-6 car, as you described. Your block is @4000 cars behind this tag I have.

Thats exactly what I thought when I saw it, I will bet you any money someone put it that way! These engines were the biggest baddest coming out so it would not surprise me if someone filled in the p in the mold.......

This will get the date guys going...that block was cast November 4th, 1969, and put in a car built about January 20th, 1970.
What is the engine assembly date from the pad???

The other number on the pad reads T01?2CRV, Could not read the 4th number looked like it could be a 1. Block casting number is 3963512, its a 4 bolt main.

Lots of 512 blocks are cast Hi PER ASS in 1970. There are also lots of K-69 and L-69 cast dated blocks. I've had April assembled blocks with Dec. 69 casting dates as well. Not really that uncommon.

Could also be another "I". Sometimes they would run low on "1"s and use the "I"s instead. Jan 12th sounds feasible as a build date. I can tell the date within a day, as I had a car 195 earlier and it was built 1-19.

If this is really your engine I would gladly sell it to you for what it cost me, I would take a lot more satisfaction from matching this up with the original car then from making a couple bucks off it.

No, not mine.... I'll probably never be lucky enough to own an LS-6 car. With or without the engine :)

please spread the word if you know of anybody with a original LS6 that is or was Fathom Green that has had an engine change. I am going to hang onto this for a while, you never know!!!
