What chemicals are good for removing weather stripping? I did a search on it but found just installation post. If you used the stuff how helpful was it.

Thanks, Tom

I used a gasket remover. It comes in an rattle can. Found it at local parts store. It softened up all the old weatherstrippng and glue and then basically just wiped it off

Do you remember the name of it or what store you bought it at?

3M makes a product called "release agent". That's what I use.

The "release agent" is usually right next to the "3M weatherstrip adheasive" in most places I have seen it sold (NAPA, pep boyz, paint supply stores).

Wish I had known about it when I replaced my trunk weatherstrip, tried everything but nothing would budge that crap. I ended up having to scrape it off.

Acetone will dissolve just about any adhesive, plastic, and rubber that you will ever encounter. Just be careful with it around your paint and any parts you want to keep.

So far Carquest is the only store near me that has the 3M stuff. I'm going to go out and pick a can up and see how well it works. If it doesn't work all that well I'll sneak some chemicals home from work and those should remove everything

A heat gun will soften it up real quick and you can use a wooden paint stick to just push it away. No damage to painted surface and no waiting for the 3M soften to soak in and slowly soften the adhesive. I used the 3M stuff and it took much longer than the heat gun method.
